Historia
You live in a world that wasn't designed for you. A world where you're expected to sit still, stay quiet, and focus. Because of the way your brain is wired, you can feel like you’re failing at life. But you are not failing. You are awesome. Award-winning content creators Kim and Penn Holderness are on a mission to reboot how we think about the unfortunately named "attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder." As always, they are doing it by looking in the mirror, because they don't just study ADHD; they live it.

Makes ADHD sound funny. (Dislike)
Revisado: 11-25-24
I'm enjoying the audiobook, but having ADHD can be very depressing when you're trying to fit into society.
My ADHD had a hand in my divorce, which I still regret. It also made it hard to keep serious friendships. I hid my ADHD, which ultimately led to depression.
So I do have those characteristics that can be funny, like making mistakes because I only read the first part of an email, losing everything, not finishing what I start, and trying to calm myself down. But I also have times when I just wish I was like everyone else.
I was called lazy and spoiled by my family, because I couldn't finish chores. I became an introvert so no one would know what I'm really like. This led to very low confidence and blaming everything on myself.
But like you said, there is no one way for ADHD people to behave. I like your book. I just wish ADHD would have turned me into an outgoing success like it did you.

Historia
Many of us feel trapped in a grind of constant change: rolling news cycles, the chatter of social media, our families split along partisan lines. We feel fearful and tired, on edge in our bodies, not quite knowing what has us perpetually depleted. For Katherine May, this low hum of fatigue and anxiety made her wonder what she was missing. Could there be a different way to relate to the world, one that would allow her to feel more rested and at ease, even as seismic changes unfold on the planet?

Disappointed

Not much to listen to here. Although it's descriptive, it wasn't an interesting story.

Historia
In this startling study of human emotion, Dacher Keltner investigates an unanswered question of human evolution: If humans are hardwired to lead lives that are "nasty, brutish, and short," why have we evolved with positive emotions like gratitude, amusement, awe, and compassion that promote ethical action and cooperative societies? Born to Be Good takes us on a journey through scientific discovery, personal narrative, and Eastern philosophy.

Christian rationalization for greed
Revisado: 11-18-19
I thought this would be an unbiased exploration. Unfortunately, it is just a rationalization for. christian greed and superiority. Don't waste your time or money.

Historia
Russ Harris offers a surprising solution to low self-confidence, shyness, and insecurity: Rather than trying to "get over" our fears, he says, the secret is to form a new and wiser relationship with them. Paradoxically, it's only when we stop struggling against our fearfulness that we begin to find lasting freedom from it.

Not very helpful
Revisado: 02-23-16
Narration was good. Unfortunately, after dismissing all of the other self improvement books, this author's idea is to remember all your fears, phobias, and frustrations, give them a name and then belittle them until they aren't important to you anymore. Very simplistic solutions dotted with classic examples of people who didn't give up and became successful.
Because of the title, I was intrigued and really wanted to like this book. Very disappointed.

Not Funny. A preachy autobiography.

It wasn't funny like his earlier books. He has a very simplistic view of life. A bit too preachy.
What could Dave Barry have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stick with humor next time.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Historia
Contrary to conventional wisdom, our brains and bodies are hardwired to carry out an evolutionary mission that determines much of what we do, from life plans to everyday decisions. With an accessible tone and a healthy disregard for political correctness, this lively and eminently readable book popularizes the latest research in a cutting-edge field of study: one that turns much of what we thought we knew about human nature upside-down.

Obvious Conclusions with a Juvenile One-Sidedness
Revisado: 04-30-14
What would have made Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters better?
It could have been improved with some substantiated scientific information. The voice of the author sounded like a republican/democrat pundit talking about the other side as if they are always wrong. I can't believe that the author knows very many social scientists, but he bundles them up as morons who deny any type of genetic disposition.
Has Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters turned you off from other books in this genre?
Well, I really liked Biology and Human Behavior: The Neurological Origins of Individuality, 2nd Edition, as well as A Short History of Nearly Everything, so I will probably buy more titles in this category.
Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Hoye’s performances?
No.
