Really enjoyed this book. DeSantis gives a very prescient view of the current political and cultural landscape, along with what he wants to do about it, and his history that makes him who he is.

At first, I didn’t like some of the “woo woo” new age stuff at the beginning. But as it went on, I found it opening up some creative channels of mine, and giving me ideas for how to be more productive, and a better writer.

"Placebo Effect" would be a better title

This is a REALLY stupid book, in that it is absolutely filled with logical errors and linguistic slight-of-hands.

The best that can be said is that it's basically a case for the power of the placebo effect -- e.g., if you THINK you can ignore traumatic past and you THINK you can change, then you will be able to. And there's some truth to that!

BUT, the book doesn't actually say that plainly -- instead, it tries to prove that this way of thinking is somehow objectively correct. The logical errors and linguistic slight-of-hands are pretty gross to anyone who takes philosophy seriously. Perhaps it can hoodwink some people into thinking they they can ignore their past and change. Which is cool, I guess, but if you have a good understanding of logic, it will just annoy you.

Deep psychological lessons!

This book is excellent. Will Smith narrates himself and does so with the energy and passion you would expect.

Goes into so many important psychological lessons, from instilling toughness through challenge, to learning how to accept oneself unconditionally.

I love how how deep Smith pushes into his own psychology and history. Mark Manson was the perfect co-author for this book, and the lessons from his books jive perfectly with the lessons from Smith’s life. Great team.

Inspiring, emotional, and I highly recommend!

This is a great window on how American business innovated in the 70s. Very impressive story that I was in the dark on until now!

It really also shows how tough a job entrepreneurs have. We should be more grateful than we are.

As an American, I didn't get the jokes. Maybe you will, though, I can't speak to that. Just giving my take here.

How Iger corporatized Disney

That'd be a better title for this book; Iger comes across the archetypical ladder-climber, who added no value to the organization beyond paper-pushing and penny-counting.

Seems he played a big role in moving Disney from a creative, artistic operation into a soulless ultra-corporate one.

At one point near the end of the book, he recounts how Roxanne Barr make some controversial tweets. He says, paraphrasing, "I knew Roxanne well, for years, and I knew she had psychological issues she was trying to work though. And I thought, 'I have to do the right thing here'."

Then he's like "so I fired her, even though others at company thought that'd be too harsh."

WTF? Talk about doing the wrong thing.

He also has other stories where he's brought to tears by freak accidents (alligator attack) at Disney.

Not a good leader. Would recommend this book if you want to read a bio on an ultra-corporate, bad leader.

Most of this book is the guy describing natural beauty, and giving lots of names to things I don't know what they look like. Doesn't work in audio form, sorry.

Sowell devastatingly lays out a case for how intellectuals have abandoned the search for truth -- and abandoned giving advice that works -- in favor of politically-correct pieties.

Sowell fills in that intellectual void with his own scholarship, which lights a pathway forward to a sane tomorrow.

MUST READ. The country would be a better place if this were required reading in schools.
