Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Hard to believe this work was ever popular.
Revisado: 06-22-21
I thought I would listen to the original since I have seen so many movies. The books story line is more interesting than the movies, but there is so little to this story. The bulk of the novel is written about the feelings of the main characters and are way too descriptive and take away from the narrative. Additionally the author would have us believe that on his deathbed Frankenstein would have spent an entire chapter describing the european sites instead of relating the important facts to the scribe. I had a hard time staying interested in this story.
The naration was decent but the narrator used a very melancholy tone for the entire work, which doesn't match the text.

Historia
China's two greatest philosophers, Confucius and Lao Tzu, were intensely interested in how we should live and how a good society is governed. The central concepts of Confucianism are li, the proper ordering of society through rituals and ceremonies, and zhen, the proper ordering of the self through humaneness, benevolence, and love. Daoism, taught under such masters as Lao Tzu and Zhuangzi, meditates on the interdependence of opposites and teaches the path of non-resistance.

A very good introduction
Revisado: 06-07-21
This work does a good job of explaining the origins of Chinese philosophy, which is based mainly on social norms and traditions more than a mythological belief system. It goes further to explain how Chinese philosophy has changed through several movements in history and how closely it related to Buddhism. I found it interesting how many of the teachings seem to parallel the teachings of Jesus. It makes one wonder how much Judaic thought was influenced by Eastern traditions.

People don't realize just how closely economic policy and philosophy are linked. Our views on economics have probably had the most significant impact on western culture than any other single factor. This was an eye opening experience.

I didn't get anything out of the main text, and at times it is hard to visualize what the author is describing. Honestly, the preface/forward was the most interesting part. I liked the history lesson and it makes me more interested to learn Japanese culture and history. The narration was very good.

Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Always enjoyed the Disney version, which is close to the book. However, I didn't like hearing/reading the book. Scarlet Johansson is a good narrator. She didn't sound like a professional, more like an aunt telling a fairy tale, but that's what I liked about it.

I enjoyed this work, the narration was very good and the content interesting. It is a translation of three early works of religions teachings. I only wish the author/translator had prefaced the work with a history of how these documents came into modern times. He states it is an oral tradition that was finally written down, but who wrote it down? When was this supposed to have been written? How was it found? What was the supposed chain of custody? I know these works belong to the mystics and they love the esoteric, but how do they determine the documents authenticity?

A very interesting read, very technical.
Revisado: 06-07-21
I really enjoyed this book, it is well written and well narrated. In this book the author makes a very strong argument that based on the narrative alone, creationism and evolution cannot stand together. the creation story completely contradicts the evolution story.
Scientific Creationism rightly points out that neither evolution nor creationism can be proven or be considered science. Neither can be considered science simply due to the fact that neither can be observed and neither can be experimented on. Which is the right lens to view any theory through, any theory is only theory unless an experiment can prove the validity of the theory.
The author makes references to many studies, research papers, and scientific findings to make the argument for a young earth. The examples stated by the author seem to provide compelling evidence for the theory.
The amount of information contained in the book is staggering, much referring to the geologic column and the methods used for dating rocks and fossils. When I have more time, I intend to buy this book so that I can go through each claim and check it's veracity myself.

Great book, bad narration
Revisado: 06-07-21
This book does a great job of giving useful tips on developing ideas, protecting them, and marketing them. It references many useful resources and I could really see how an inventor could use this to help them get their product to market. The author is witty, writes very well, and provides insight.
The narrator, however, made listening to it an absolute chore. I would have turned it off if I wasn't determined to hear the content of the book. The narrator has a robotic cadence devoid of any emotion. Every story or joke was told without any inflection or warmth, which ruined the intended effect of the author. Additionally, the narrator's robotic reading was worsened by the moaning or groaning of the last syllable of every sentence. He made the ending syllable of almost every sentence two or three syllables long. I had to keep stopping and switching to music just to make it through.
