Voice Actor Awful, book FANTASTIC

Despite the voice Actor being absolutely dreadful, the plot, character development, and dry humor made this a four star listen. I may just read it anyways because it was just such a great story.

This one is so stinkin cute! I personally would have loved a couple good scoops of seggzual tension and more spice. Overall, it's the best RomCom I've read in some time. 9.5/10 will read again! 💚

I haven't gotten this involved with a series in a LONG time. T.A. White will forever have my heart and loyalty. The world building 🙌 The character development 🙌 The relationships and nuances therein 🙌 The freaking mystery?!🙌 The anticipation...speechless. 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 Oh and performance is amazing as always!

Keeps Getting Better and Better

T.A. White is universe building Sci-fi fantasy romance gold! I am in awe of the worlds she created. Characters are clear and you genuinely feel connected to them and their storyline. Prejudice, revenge, love, deep sadness and loss. Each feeling and motivation are so cleanly presented that you can imagine the story unfolding without the unnecessary details a lot of authors include. 💚💚💚💚 10/10 again.

Angsty Angst - SPOILERS

The banter and wit is excellent so I was really hoping I would enjoy the entirety of the book, but it was just okay. The ending and eventual get together seemed to drag out and then all of the sudden they were adoring each other. The ending felt rushed because of that, especially considering how long it took for January and Gus to 'acknowledge' something was there.

The spice was kind of vague and some of the scenes gave the impression that they were added as an afterthought causing some clunky transitions. The audible performance had opportunities as it was difficult to distinguish internal dialog from character discussion; the book really was riddled with angsty angst topped with angst.

What really chafed my chaps was the daddy daughter drama. It was excessive and weird. I don't understand how as a fully formed adult with life experience, January could not get over or handle her parents relationship roller-coaster. Everyone handles grief differently so her dads death is a hurdle, but it felt more tied to a worship of her dad and her parents relationship that I found off-putting. January's inability to process her parents as real people instead of fairytale all the way into her late 20's is strange to me.

Gus was emotionally stunted in a way that said hey yeah, I need real therapy. January's acceptance and even intentional attraction to his obvious broken psyche was also off putting. He's popping red flags like it's the super bowl.

Sonja said her relationship with January's father had being fleeting at best. Why did she have the letter from her father for January? Her explanation of why she felt obligated/privy to the secret letter scavenger hunt her dad arranged for her at January's exact age of late twenties after a untimely death does not compute. Why did her dad have the letter scavenger hunt and not give it to her years and years earlier? The timeline doesn't make sense.

I truly adored the linguistics and novel humor. I was just overall disappointed in the plot, character development and progression.

There were some gooey center pieces but overall the two main characters were so unlikable. Just red flags all over the place. Not on the same plant as the first book.
