Historia
The tale begins in Dark Age Britain, a land where Arthur has been banished and Merlin has disappeared, where a child-king sits unprotected on the throne, where religion vies with magic for the souls of the people. It is to this desperate land that Arthur returns, a man at once utterly human and truly heroic: a man of honor, loyalty, and amazing valor; a man who loves Guinevere more passionately than he should; a man whose life is at once tragic and triumphant.

Slow start but worth staying with it / fantastic performance
Revisado: 03-01-24
A really cleverly written take on the Arthurian legend. I got it on sale but would've been a good buy even if full price. And Mr Keeble could read a Chinese food takeout menu and make it seem like a rich & compelling narrative... awesome performance.

Historia
The walls have fallen, the gates are breached, and the defenders are slain. It is the end and the death. After seven brutal years of civil war, the Warmaster stands on the verge of victory. Horus Lupercal, once beloved son, has come to murder his father. The Emperor, a shining beacon of hope to many, an unscrupulous tyrant to others, must die. The lives of uncountable numbers have been extinguished and even primarchs, once thought immortal, have been laid low. The Emperor's dream lies in tatters, but there remains a sliver of hope.

Garviel Loken is a badass.
Jonathan Keeble could read a Chinese food menu and make it sound like high drama.

Very enjoyable story, competent narration, BUT...
Revisado: 03-16-23
whoever was responsible for the table of contents dorked it up big-time. If it was a human entering the chapter titles - that human has no earthly idea about WH40K or its lore. if it was a speech recognition engine - then the engine blows & whoever QA'd the output was totally asleep at the switch. chapter titles included such classics as "For Home and the Thrown" (sic). I'm going to go out on a limb and say that that wasn't the kind of "throne" ADB was getting at.... BUT...
then again, at least there WAS a table of contents, even if only the short bus version. Too many other 40K books have nothing but chapter #'s listed out in the ToC, especially the short story compilations. C'mon GW, cool it with the JV product support. I'm giving you $65 for an Abaddon miniature made from $3 worth of materials... I KNOW you can afford a Table of Contents... yeesh... (this is all said with much love btw)

Historia
Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Believe the hype. The best audiobook in years.
Revisado: 08-22-22
Warhammer 40K books are good fun and some (the best ones) even have complex plots with well developed characters... and then there's this, which is one of those random creative diamonds the universe spits out from time to time. Who would have known? A truly wonderful and funny and memorable plot with 2 of the best characters ever written in the 40K mythos. Only topped by the narration, which I think is the gold standard for audiobooks. Period. All of 'em. Reed is fantastic - and he can roll R's better than any human being I've ever heard.

The definitive account of Germany's malign transformation under Hitler's total rule and the implacable march to war. This magnificent second volume of Richard J. Evans's three-volume history of Nazi Germany was hailed by Benjamin Schwartz of The Atlantic Monthly as "the definitive English-language account... gripping and precise." It chronicles the incredible story of Germany's radical reshaping under Nazi rule.

Historia
Evans interweaves a broad narrative of the war’s progress with viscerally affecting personal testimony from a wide range of people - from generals to front-line soldiers, from Hitler Youth activists to middle-class housewives. The Third Reich at War lays bare the dynamics of a nation more deeply immersed in war than any society before or since. Fresh insights into the conflict’s great events are here, from the invasion of Poland to the Battle of Stalingrad to Hitler’s suicide in the bunker.

Historia
In Search of Schrodinger's Cat tells the complete story of quantum mechanics, a truth stranger than any fiction. John Gribbin takes us step by step into an even more bizarre and fascinating place, requiring only that we approach it with an open mind. He introduces the scientists who developed quantum theory. He investigates the atom, radiation, time travel, the birth of the universe, super conductors and life itself. A fascinating and delightful introduction to the strange world of the quantum - an essential element in understanding today's world.

Classic Quantum intro/now w. Jude Law!(not really)
Revisado: 09-25-21
I read this freshman year of college, around when I knew I wa going to major in physics. I loved it then just as I love it now. In the 20 yrs since, I've seen it referenced many times by profs, working research physicists, and mass media. The complex concepts are explained effectively and with care towards not diluting the essential core physical principles down to nothing in the name of simplification and accessibility. the text in 2021 is definitely showing its age, more than 35 years I believe since it's initial publishing - it's particularly obvious when talking about the fantastic new technology -- Lasers!! (I think a new / updated edition would be very successful. Looking at you publisher.)
An obvious (and amusing) thing about the narration performance is that the reader sounds exactly, and I mean exactly, like Jude Law... after extended listening periods, I would lapse into delusions where I was suddenly listening to The Talented Mr. Ripley... Great novel/pretty good movie - and 100% irrelevant to quantum mechanics though...
Overall the narrator does quite a good job - but there are several famous physicist's names that get mispronounced. Leonard Euler is one name repeatedly flubbed. Otherwise a very solid audio set.
Bottom line: If anyone you know &/or care for is interested in physics - this book is worth the time. I haven't met anyone who has not benefited from at least some part of it.

Historia
On the first Sunday in December 1941, an armada of Japanese warplanes appeared suddenly over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and devastated the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Six months later, in a sea fight north of the tiny atoll of Midway, four Japanese aircraft carriers were sent into the abyss. Pacific Crucible tells the epic tale of these first searing months of the Pacific war, when the U.S. Navy shook off the worst defeat in American military history and seized the strategic initiative.
