Usually my favorite part about listening to murder mysteries set in countries other than my own is the narrator helps give a sense of place and I learn pronunciations that are much more accurate than anything I could do on my own. This narrator helps give a sense of place, but is not a professional audiobook reader. The pacing and volume are all over the place, the accents/voices by character aren’t consistent, and the author struggles with a lot of words. As the rest of the series is also read by the same narrator, I won’t be listening to any more, but I will look for the titles at my library as actual or ebooks.

I have to stop being a sucker for the “free” audible originals. I’ll never get the time back. Nothing worked about this one. The story is terrible, from anachronistic characterizations to gratuitous sexploitation to dumb, dumb choices made by all of the characters, it just never gels. The audio production was also frustrating—the sound mixing is such that I could never find the right volume. Too quiet one moment, someone screaming in my ear the next. One small positive, the narrator’s voice and accent were lovely. Not worth 6 hours of my time!
