Historia
On a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché. But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda....

All readers were miscast
Revisado: 01-24-25
This was a very enjoyable story. The readers were all inappropriately cast. If you can get past that, its a great read.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Bravo to the reader
Revisado: 06-18-24
First of all, I am NOT a science fiction reader. This story, however, is given an irresistible charm and coherence by the reader. Rylan Grace is brought to life by an unquestionably brilliant narration. There is an understandable amount of verisimilitude in the plot itself, but what a fun ride! It is first and foremost a story of friendship and the greater good.

Historia
Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort—a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other "Bunny", and seem to move and speak as one. But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled "Smut Salon"....

Something new
Revisado: 12-07-23
The book starts off as a craft of keen observation and satire. Then it suddenly goes off the rails and turns into an observation in satirical and experiential high school mean girls. The writer has a talent that hits each line with just the right phrasing and word choice. Definitely read to be taken on a ride.

Historia
This mesmerizing novel tells the story of a brutal murder in the staid Tokyo suburbs, as a young mother who works the night shift making boxed lunches strangles her abusive husband and then seeks the help of her coworkers to dispose of the body and cover up her crime. The coolly intelligent Masako emerges as the plot's ringleader but quickly discovers that this killing is merely the beginning, as it leads to a terrifying foray into the violent underbelly of Japanese society.

Japan’s Finest
Revisado: 09-23-23
First of all, the narrator did an amazing job. She is an Asian woman telling a Japanese story. Don’t regard the haters who did not appreciate her voice.
Natsuo Kirino is in a class all her own. This is a brilliantly wrought cat and mouse story with a deeper facet of darkness found in the sewers of human condition. I highly recommend this author.

Disappointing IRL
Revisado: 07-13-23
90 percent of this novel is a dumb YA cheesy romance, while the ending reveals the most horrific experience a child could have, and the antagonist escapes within 10 seconds of being discovered. The world needs the worst of the worst to face actual consequences, not take the easy way out. This happens so often in real life. It would have been a more redeeming dénouement had the criminal lived with his crime possessing the shame he deserved. There are too many real life victims who deserve better justice. This novel cheats its own heroine.

Agnes is a wild creature who walks her family’s land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose career on the London stage is taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever.

Historia
One year after the death of his beloved musician father, thirteen-year-old Benny Oh begins to hear voices. The voices belong to the things in his house—a sneaker, a broken Christmas ornament, a piece of wilted lettuce. Although Benny doesn't understand what these things are saying, he can sense their emotional tone; some are pleasant, a gentle hum or coo, but others are snide, angry and full of pain. When his mother, Annabelle, develops a hoarding problem, the voices grow more clamorous.

Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Reality is 1K times worse.
Revisado: 07-02-22
I knew nothing about this author before purchasing the book. Noting that the name was not Hispanic, I looked her up. I’m not sure whether to promote this stereotype ridden, watered down version of the true terrors that happen to persons who immigrate to America’s south or to trash it for being as much. All I can say to non Hispanic readers is to be well aware that reality is incomprehensibly worse. Having cared for small migrant children, I have been told so many stories of their experience. The border patrol ransom is true. In many ways, they are worse than cartel. Read this book as a work meant for non Hispanics to gain a little empathy for what people go through just for the chance to earn a living in this country. However, keep in mind that the author has no fundamental cultural connection to this content in any way. She tells you a gripping story. But not an authentic and truly harrowing one. Not even close.
*the reader is Hispanic, but her accent that should relay a Mexican national is waaaaay off. The only Spanish that would resemble hers is the one of Beto.

Lydia is the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee, and her parents are determined that she will fulfill the dreams they were unable to pursue. Not to be divisive
Revisado: 12-27-21
The only bad reviews are by people who have never walked in minority shoes. Be that of race or any other social difference. This is an important book to those who feel the issues the characters deal with in reality. They are felt to the core of one’s being. Nothing has been resolved, only one’s own ability to cope, to stifle the heart, to keep going and living despite oneself… softly crying in the background of the noise.
