I was hooked from the beginning! Sapolsky explains interesting and thought-provoking neuroscience. I love the scattered dry humor that invites the reader to pay closer attention. over all a great book

First of all, if you are looking for a cultivation story, do yourself a favor and skip to chapter 20. But if you are looking for MC cultivator with agency you won't find it here. MC does whatever the godess tells him so that none of his progression is his own. He is nothing more than a puppet for most of the book, and when he does make a choice, it is one I can't relate to (e.g., bringing bribes to a bully or not acting to save his deciple from that same bully). MC is pathetic, and the story is boring.

The story arc constantly comes to a complete stop for the sake of an info-dump. Or a supposedly high-speed fight scene is frozen in time for over a minute to let commoners make their deragatory comments. it seems like everyone is experiencing the same emotions too as if they are just a bunch of npcs rather than individuals in a living world (Everyone was shocked/excited/scared/etc). Then there is a tendency for a sentence to repeat the content of a previous sentence (something like: It was raining really hard. Although it was raining.... blah blah blah). Furthermore info gained from info-dump paragraphs is often repeated multiple times.
The story has potential but the writing/translation are making listening to it an ordeal. Narrator is good, I have no complaints there.

I hate the info dumps

I liked the story line of all 3 books. Main character development and progression are well done too. But I absolutely hate the 10-20 minute info dumps containing history, mechanics, lore, etc. Fight scenes get interrupted with a history lesson on some beast or item... Don't tell us, show us! Check out Robert Jordan's writing in Wheel of time for an example of how descriptions of places and people can be integrated with actions and adventures. Another annoying feature in your writing is repetition of words and phrases (e.g. "Michael's eyes flashed").

Unlike book 1 and 2 that I enjoyed immensely, this book was boring, soapy and most importantly lacked progression. The focus of the book has shifted from individual progression of MC to talk about his friends, enemies, and the war. I'll give the next book a try only because the first two books were really good.

Surprisingly good

While story shares many common themes with other litrpgs, wuxia, and system apocalypse novels it also has unique features and additions.

The story itself has many twists, making it less predictable. Main character makes mistakes and learns from them. His path is an utter mess, but he makes it work. I am looking forward to book 4 to see him combine his dual class, unrelated dao seeds, his weird life/death core into something special.

one negative:
The author tries to portray different alien species, but they all feel like humans with little variance in culture. They even use the same terms as the main character (e g. "powerhouse" )
