Historia
In 1972, Martha "Marty" Goddard volunteered at a crisis hotline, counseling girls who had been molested by their fathers, their teachers, their uncles. Soon, Marty was on a mission to answer a question: Why were so many sexual predators getting away with these crimes? By the end of the decade, she had launched a campaign pushing hospitals and police departments to collect evidence of sexual assault and treat survivors with dignity. She designed a new kind of forensics tool—the rape kit—and new practices around evidence collection that spread across the country.

The Hidden Story of the Rape Kit and It’s Creator is Finally Told
Revisado: 01-22-25
I really liked this book for many reasons. The story of Marty Goddard was compelling and dramatic. The author successfully shows how Marty created the rape kit and despite unimaginable hurdles succeeded in getting law enforcement to adopt it.
Pagan Kennedy also tells a broader and complex story of how violence against women had received little attention even up to today.
And finally, the narrator, Claire Danes, does a impressive job telling this wonderfully researched story.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

A Terrific Biography of an American Hero
Revisado: 04-30-22
This was an amazing effort in telling the whole story of a complex U.S.Grant.
Chernow has shown that previous history books have not done justice to the rich legacy of Grant particularly his years as president. The research highlighting Grants strong support for the newly freed former slaves seems new and fresh.
The narration is top notch and adds the right emotional impact that moves the story forward.
Like David McCullough’s biography of John Adams , this biography by Ron Chernow changes the way we should see U.S Grant.

Historia
Leonardo da Vinci created the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and engineering. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry.

Fascinating Biography of a Great Genius
Revisado: 02-28-22
Like all of the author’s other biographies, this one digs deep to try to understand and explain Da Vinci’s motivations and inner thoughts. You begin to understand why DaVinci was more then a great painter.
At the same time the reader is presented with an excellent history of the time period and the colorful characters in Da Vinci’s life.
Alfred Molina’s narration is the best I have ever heard. His voice is amazing and adds so much to the listening of this fascinating story.

Historia
In September 1776, the vulnerable Continental army under an unsure George Washington evacuated New York after a devastating defeat by the British army. Three weeks later, near the Canadian border, one of his favorite generals, Benedict Arnold, miraculously succeeded in postponing the British naval advance down Lake Champlain that might have lost the war. As this book ends, four years later, Washington has vanquished his demons, and Arnold has fled to the enemy. America was forced at last to realize that the real threat to its liberties might not come from without but from within.

The Code Breaker is another excellent read by Isaacson
Revisado: 04-24-21
Overall, Code Breaker is a highly entertaining book. Isaacson tells the story of the development of CRISPR and profiles Nobel Prize -winning scientist, Jennifer Doudna.
Like his book on Einstein, he introduces a great caste of characters and makes complex science easily understandable.
This story is timely and enables the listener to better understand how drug companies were able to develop a vaccine for COVID 19 at lightening speed.
The narration is first rate and at a good pace. Walter Isaacson also narrates certain parts of the story which provides added impact and insight.
