Historia
Neighbors Gwen, Aimee, and Lisa share more than playdates and coffee mornings on their tranquil street in East Bethesda. They confide their deepest secrets, navigate the challenges of motherhood together, and provide a support system that seems unbreakable. But when Gwen's husband is found murdered after one of their weekly Friday night dinners, the peaceful quiet of their cul-de-sac shatters. The seemingly idyllic world of the three close-knit mom friends becomes a web of deception, betrayal, and revenge.

Gripping domestic suspense with a great ending
Revisado: 04-20-25
What a roller coaster! This book starts with a slow build, getting to know three women who have their own share of secrets. Eventually without even realizing it was happening, the book starts taking twists and turns. The way it all wraps up is something I will be thinking about for some time. Fantastic!

Historia
Stephanie and Jessica have nothing and everything in common. The two women don’t know each other but are on the same plane heading to California. Stephanie is on a business trip and Jasmine is fleeing an abusive relationship. After a few days, they text their friends the same exact messages about the same man—the messages becoming stranger and more erratic. And then the two women vanish. The texts go silent, the red flags go up, and the panic sets in. When Stephanie and Jasmine are each declared missing and in danger, it begs the questions: Who is Trent McCarthy?

Lots of plot holes but they really didn’t bother me. This was a wild ride. The narrators are great.

Historia
Reclusive author Ginevra Ex is famous for her unusual approach to crafting her bestselling thrillers: she hires real people and conducts intensive interviews, then fictionalizes them. Her latest main character, Rory, is thrilled when Ginevra presents her with an extravagant bonus—a lavish trip along Italy’s Mediterranean coast on the famed, newly renovated Orient Express. But when Rory boards the train, she’s stunned to discover that her brother, her best friend, and even her ex-fiancé are passengers, as well. All invited by Ginevra, all hiding secrets.

An intriguing concept and compelling characters

I loved this book. The story itself feels both inventive and vintage. The setting on the train and in Italy makes a lovely backdrop for the multitude of secrets that are revealed. The ending was unexpected but perfect, in my opinion.

One of the best books I read this year and Catherine Steadman’s acting skills on top of her writing skills makes the audiobook near perfection! I wish I could give this more than 5 stars.

Historia
Jane Knudsen is an exceptionally private and intimidatingly beautiful workaholic attorney. Unflappable and cool, she’s the last person likely to suddenly snap and murder one of her firm’s senior partners. Yet she’s become the most likely suspect in the crime. She’s retained Allison Barton, her former law school roommate, to represent her. It’s Allison’s job to believe Jane, even if Allison never really knew her. No one did. Jane always made sure of that.

Great narration and solid story
Revisado: 05-15-22
I didn’t realize this was a sequel until like 2/3 through and thankfully it read like a stand-alone so it didn’t matter! Narration is great, the story is interesting. Loved the focus on first impressions and what we assume about others based on superficiality. A few content warnings for those who care, namely sexual abuse of a minor. It’s not graphic since it’s all flashbacks.

This was a fun book and overall I thought the narration was good, particularly the narrators for Tish and Kate! It was a bit easier to predict where this would go than the author’s prior books, but it’s a quick and engaging read.

Historia
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

Compulsive storytelling
Revisado: 05-15-21
This book starts so strange but by the third chapter I was completely hooked. The story just gets more and more twisted and devious as it goes! Full of fantastic twists, though I did sort of hope for one more zinger. Fantastic book!

I’m a big fan of Lea Geller’s books—she has such a sharp way of seeing the ridiculous yet redeeming side of people. The narration really enhanced this book too—it kept the story light, humorous, and ultimately helped deliver on a message that certainly warmed my heart!

The narration was outstanding for this gothic story!
Revisado: 07-02-19
I really enjoyed The Stranger Diaries, and I definitely think that the audiobook is the way to go! The gothic feel to this mystery was so spooky. I know “atmospheric” is often misused, but it’s absolutely the way to describe this book. The old school with the writers office still intact, the spooky short story snippets interspersed, and the diary entries. There were at times a ghostly feel to this book, and the narration really brought it out. Fantastic!
