Too many disconnected vignettes

The narrator does a good job but the story was hard to follow because of disconnected vignettes and unnecessary detail. With about ten hours left I switched to D-Day by Stephen Ambrose, which was easier to follow and much more interesting. Ambrose breaks his story up into larger chunks, allowing him to tell the story while Sand and Steel comes off as more of a recitation of facts.

Three Men in a Boat was intended to be a serious travel guide. It failed dismally in this respect but succeeded in becoming an hilarious account of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford. The three men were based on the author and two of his friends. The holiday was a typical boating holiday of its time, carried out on what was known as a Thames camping skiff. The dog, Montmorency, however, was entirely fictional, but, as Jerome remarked, 'had much of me in it'.

Hilarious

Would you listen to Three Men in a Boat again? Why?
This book will leave you in stitches if you like British dry humor. It reminded me of The Theory and Practice of Gamesmanship by Stephen Potter. The narrator got it just right.
