Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life's passion. Without the second, the mummy's curse would have made corpses of them all.

A favorite of mine, despite the pace
Revisado: 09-30-24
Left to escape into the 1800's British social scene, mixed with early Egyptology, it is a 1980's mystery that is still a great read. And you can't beat Rosenblat's incredible narration!

Politics is where a great series goes to die
Revisado: 08-08-24
Look at the number of ratings V God Touched.
The Book of Levi, a prequel, is now listed first book, but I don't count it in this analogy because the author has already lost so many potential readers.
I tolerated this series while the backdrop was historical fiction, which could be appreciated 40 years ago, and 40 years from now. This book tries to fold in 5 of the top ten political subjects of 2023, and of only one political side. I doubt that's going to age too well. And it's not what I read this genre for. This author is a very talented writer in this genre. It's too bad that he has stepped away from his expertise.
This is my last for this series, This was a waste of Conroe's incredible imagination, and my time. This is fantasy. This and LITRPG was where I moved to get away from a book being either conservative or liberal. I wanted fantasy, not political science.
I hope this was helpful to the Author.
I hope this is helpful to the potential reader. I think it is great if this is where you go to have your political convictions played out in fiction, and you want to hear only one side of the US two party system.

Redefining Suspension of Disbelief!
Revisado: 10-28-23
Suspension of disbelief is really hard to pull off in a Fantasy/Lit RPG.
You not only have to have a unique and tight plot thread that can survive 4 long books, but you also have to have characters that are really distinct from each other, consistently, throughout the series, and a narrator that can pull that off. Travis Baldree is always great, but this series might be his best narration so far.
J.M. Clarke also does the perfect amount of recounting such that you don't get the characters, or their relationships to each other mixed up. And that really helps if you're like me and fast-forward through long battles!
Keep it up!!!

Back on track!
Revisado: 06-18-23
I feared the Author had woven a complex plot he was not going to be able to bring back together into a satisfactory conclusion. Furthermore, I feared the main relationship potential he was teasing us with was going to get crushed within the plot.
Thankfully, I was wrong. This was one of the best in the series and I look forward to the next!!

Creative, in-depth, well-written/read story!!!
Revisado: 01-15-23
This was beyond entertainment. This was complete suspension of disbelief created by this writer and narrator. At the same time I marveled at the craft of these two persons - how tightly woven, how distinct the characters, and how naturally the emotions and character traits were performed by the narrator.
One caution as the story continues. One reviewer was happy that there was more action. I hope that Clarke does not ruin this series like so many others by turning this into a battle after battle escalation and repetition. This has been a great story of the life and growth of a close group of distinct and interesting characters. To me, the battles and monsters should part of, or the backdrop of the story - not the story itself,
Keep it up!! Can't wait for the next one.

Great story with lots of surprises!
Revisado: 12-06-22
It's hard to miss with Travis Baldree as the narrator, but this book excelled because:
1. Entertaining, funny, and interesting protagonist
2. Great main characters
3. Easy to follow and know who's speaking
4. Great story that doesn't follow standard LIT RPG or fantasy narrative
Most Important!
So many fantasy & sci fi books are end up being a story line couched between one battle after another. Battles were carefully woven in as just a part of the clever story line. In some cases he just explained a battle as he brings you up to the present and keeps this 20 plus hour book going like crazy.
I can't wait for the next book in this series!!!

Historia
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

"Not Bad"? You have got to be kidding me!
Revisado: 01-23-22
I read a hundred books a year. I love LITRPG, but many simply go from one battle to another, and lean heavily on sex, language, or shock.
This book initially gives the main character a raw deal, then uses the characters, lateral thinking, emotion, and dry humor to create a unique and moderately complex story supported by a very talented narrator.
"Perfect" writing does not make a perfect book, it makes you a great English teacher - not what I'm looking for. I want to be entertained by a book I can't put down.
This was a book that I listened to in one 24 hr period, and it left me wanting more.
It won't be easy for them to create the same reaction in me in the rest of a series, Ready Player One is one good example of that. Nevertheless I'll be pre-ordering the next in this series.

Had me hooked on book 1, then got political
Revisado: 08-13-21
The first book was one of my favorites of the year, but when he down-traded narrators, I thought he was just cashing in. And even though book 2 is a good story, the performance counts, Then he started getting political. When I want to be educated in politics, I read books by political professionals, not Paul Levine. It even began to change my opinion of the first book, which I hate, because I really enjoyed it.

Dirk Pitt meets Pendergast!
Revisado: 04-24-18
Any additional comments?
Don't get me wrong. I don't consider these books as a knockoff of either. They are easy to read, adventurous, and read by Scott Brick like the Dirk Pitt series, with the otherworldly quality and character-strength of the Pendergast series. We needed another strong author in this genre. I can't wait for the the rest of Grumley's work!

Overall my favorite of its genre
Revisado: 03-29-18
Any additional comments?
Neck and neck with Expeditionary Force and Bobiverse as this audiobook junkie's best ever space series, I have to give the ultimate nod here, if you consider everything - Story, character development, best mix of humor/conflict/communication/drama, narrator/ consistency. Most importantly - As soon as I begin each book, I am immediately comfortable with the crew, with each being uniquely identifiable. Each section of each book is its own unique adventure. This series doesn't suffer from the usual tendency to fill in between predictable battle sequences.
