Historia
The Iron Wolves are a company of legionnaires whose legendary exploits date back to the Savage Wars. When they are invited to be guests of honor at a ceremony on a small, backwater planet, they look forward to some precious time away from the constant conflicts of galaxy's edge. But when a neighboring country invades, disrupting the ceremony and killing innocents, the Wolves are forced to make an impossible decision. Aid a people pleading for their protection...or obey the cynical orders of their senate to stand down and see how the dust settles.

Horrendous Narrator
Revisado: 03-14-19
I’m not just saying the narrator was bad because he isn’t RC Bray, the first order of the centurion had a new guy and he did fine. This narrator was distracting, inconsistent and frankly hard to listen to.
He shifted tone and intensity so abruptly and seemingly randomly (often mid sentence) that it was hard to pay attention to what was going on. He also tried to add so much emotion into like every single exchange that it made just normal character development dialogue or exposition seem super cheesy and obnoxious, detracting from the quality of the writing.
Further, I never had any idea who was talking. He had a ton of different voices but he used them all for everyone. Captain Zeno and Doc were the only two I could (usually) identify by voice everyone else seemed like their voice got picked at random at the start of every sentence (pretty much everyone went through a Scottish phase at least twice)
As for the book itself, the plot and characters seemed more silly than most of the other galaxies edge material. I honestly couldn’t tell you if that was because the reader made it seem that way or it’s genuinely the case but I did get the impression that there was an absence of the grounding which makes this series work so well.

Don’t be thrown off by the new narrator
Revisado: 03-06-19
I’m as big a Bray fan boy as the next guy but Mark Boyett is a quality narrator and will do nothing to detract from the overall quality of the book. I do think his wheelhouse is on the slightly less serious end of the spectrum (he really shines in undying mercinaries) but his voice fits the genera well. Again he’s great and once you’ve adjusted you’ll love it.

Star Wars crossed with Black Hawk Down

The fantastic and tense story telling of this series is surpassed only by its remarkable ability to retain a visceral sense of grounding in the context of a space opera.
