Historia
Her dresses are too tight, her heels too tall. She laughs too loudly, eats without decorum, and mixes up most sayings in the book. Little do most know it’s just a sparkly disguise, there to hide one panic attack at a time. Nobody can crack Gianna’s facade...no one anyway, until he comes along. In the New York underworld, others know him as a hustler, a killer; his nature as cold as the heart of ice in his chest. Christian Allister has always followed the life plan he’d envisioned in his youth, beneath the harsh lights of a frigid, damp cell.

Great duet narration
Revisado: 12-28-24
This book was such a good romance between two people who were always at odds. The hero and heroine were always in close proximity to one another due to his business with the Mafia family she was wed into. They've always been at odds with one another, barely seeming to control their disdain.
I love that their love story wasn't easy. There was a lot of push and pull between them. When they finally get together it's all chemistry and longing and pure carnal desire. There were a lot of emotional elements that I didn't expect and it made me love these two characters even more.

Friends to lovers perfection!
Revisado: 12-06-24
This was such a good friends-to-lovers romance. It's starts off when the heroine, Ivy, messages the hero Gray because she's found out her Dad, a sports agent, has loaned her candy pink car to him. They start out bickering over text, then their teasing antics slowly turn into such a fun friendship. They're alike in so many ways, and they discover that they can be friends, tease each other, support each other, and eventually, desire each other.
I like how they transitioned from friends to lovers. It was a slow, steady, and believable way for them to fall into lust and love. He's a college sports athlete with big hopes to go pro, yet the side of him that we see in this book is vulnerable. He's faced loss in the past, and has never really had anyone have his back the way Ivy does. Likewise, Ivy's big heart hasn't truly felt fulfilled until she met Gray. They click together like perfect puzzle pieces. They go through just enough drama and angst to make the book intriguing without it being over the top.
Highly recommend to anyone wanting an emotional, college sports, friends-to-lovers romance.

Great narrators!
Revisado: 12-06-24
Yesssss to this book. I heard whispers and full-on raves about this book over the last year or so. I knew it would be gritty, but I didn't expect it to be so much fun to read! The narrators really did an amazing job at engaging the reader and imparting emotions and comedic relief to a book that very much needed it.
Sloane is a k!ller of k!llers. She hunts serial k!llers for sport, without hesitation or regret. Rowan swims in the same pond, so to speak. These two are a match made in heaven and seeing them fall in love was so damn fun. Their shenanigans and games were comical and engaging, and their witty banter and teasing was equal parts delightful and smile inducing.
And who knew I'd fall in love with a serial k!ller so easily? Rowan was smooth as silk and Sloane couldn't help but gobble up all the yummy flirting that he threw her way. I love these two so much, and could easily have read a longer book because I didn't want it to end. If she turned their story into a series, I'd read it hands down. But alas, we're given this one book, and a promise of more from them in future books as side characters.

giddy up
Revisado: 10-16-24
Rhettttt! Damn that's one bull rider I wish I could see in action. This sexy ladies man finds himself in a bind when he is caught in camera talking bad about one of his sponsors. For a small town cowboy, that's not good. His agent sends in someone to help do damage control on the public perception of him.
Enter Summer. His agents daughter, and a smart as hell law school graduate. Her teenage crush on him is long gone, and now all she wants to do with him is wring his neck when he opens his sexy mouth. She throws out just enough wit and sass to pique his interest and the next thing he knows she's no longer the nagging babysitting, but has become the fun chick who he doesn't mind being near.
Their romance was so damn sexy. So much fun. It's flirty and sensual and gave me all the feel good emotions I love.

Working as a nanny for the world’s grumpiest single dad should have been simple. Except I can’t keep my eyes off him. And he can’t keep his hands off of me. Cade Eaton is 13 years older than I am and barely looks my way. Until I get him into the hot tub one night for a game of truth or dare. Then all bets are off—and so are our clothes. He’s gruff, a little rough around the edges. But broad-shouldered ranchers with calloused hands and filthy mouths are this city girl’s kryptonite. So who am I to resist?

Perfection
Revisado: 10-16-24
There's not one bad thing I can say about this book! It was pure perfection and complete undoing! Single dad Cade met his match in his temporary nanny, Willa. Their meet-cute set the tone for how the rest of the book went: sexy, hopeful, and a bit spunky.
Willa is not who Cade would normally choose to watch his kid, but she comes highly recommended by his new sis-in-law so he goes with it. He soon sees that Willa is exactly the type of person he wants around his son...she's loving, compassionate, thoughtful, and has so much heart to give. Their relationship is deliciously forbidden, but nothing about it felt wrong. It was sexy yet sensual, full of deep emotions, and showcased what happens when two people with big emotions and hearts crash together.
And their banter!! The fun banter between them, whether through text or in person, was top-notch.
I loved this book so much and highly recommend!

friends to lovers
Revisado: 10-16-24
I was listening to the audiobooks but felt like I was missing that emotional punch I should have been feeling, given the backstory of the hero and heroine, so I switched to paperback midway through and I'm so glad I did!
Sloane and Jasper have been friends since they were kids, always having each other's back in simple ways. Sloane's been not-so-secretly into Jasper since she was a teenager, but he's always kept her in the friend zone. He's the kinda hero I Iove: fiercely loyal, deeply contemplative, and protective AF. The way he swoops in like a white knight and rescues her from her awful situation she's in with her fiance did things to my heart.
The way these two click together so perfectly was a balm on the aching heart I got from reading about Jaspers emotional journey. He's the kind of guy I just want to reach through the pages and hug. And Sloane's situation with her Mom and Dad had a different kind of achiness to it...I really felt that betrayal.
Through all the chaos of this story, I love Sloane and Jaspers connection, how they supported one another, and the found family feel-good vibes I got from this gang of characters.

A good second chance at love
Revisado: 10-16-24
OMG the way my jaw dropped at the end of Chapter 7. Bravo to this author for giving me whiplash as hard as she did!
Theo has always been the fun cowboy friend of this group. Always down for a good time and dedicated to the sport of rodeo. His one night with Winter was long coming and I loved the anticipatory vibes these two were giving off.
Cue the violin when we're given a time jump and these two finally reconnect. There was an immediate sense of longing that was screaming from the pages as I read, and I just knew these two were going to reconnect in spectacular, emotional fashion. And they did!
Theo gave me all the freaking swoons. This man had me wrapped around his finger to tight. His love, desire, and devotion to Winter was perfectly written.
And Winter! I knew she would have an amazing redemption story and I love that this author gave her the HEA she deserved. Winter always seemed so cold and aloof in other books, but there was so much more to her and I loved seeing all her different sides in this book.
Theo and Winter's banter was perfect, and their mutual vulnerability was to-die-for. They were sometimes sweet, sometimes sexy, and complemented each other just right.

Fake relationship turned to love
Revisado: 10-16-24
My poor heart with this book. Beau and Bailey's love was one of the most hard fought loves I've ever read. It begins as a fake relationship meant to help Bailey build her reputation and help keep Beau's family off of his back. She's from a family of hooligans and gets no respect in their small town, and he's home after being a POW. She wants nothing but to escape the little town that had never shown her compassion, and he wants nothing but to live his life without being constantly reminded of his past.
They start out as a transaction, but slowly start to build their relationship, little by little, inch by inch. Neither of them trusts others easily. Neither of them knows what their next step is going to be. Neither of them has much hope for what the future will bring them. Yet in each other, they find glimpses of happiness, moments to smile, moments to feel useful, moments to laugh, and moments to feel emotions.
This book carries some heavy topics and brings out heavy emotions, and I love how this author laid them all out on the table! They screamed and laughed and cried. They explored and fantasized and dreamed. And through it all they found themselves by finding one another.
This was a truly beautiful romance, and I'm so glad she wrote it the way that she did.

Megan Kamalei Kakimoto's wrenching and sensational debut story collection follows a cast of mixed native Hawaiian and Japanese women through a contemporary landscape thick with inherited wisdom and the ghosts of colonization. This is a Hawai'i where unruly sexuality and generational memory overflow the postcard image of paradise and the boundaries of the real, where the superstitions born of the islands take on the weight of truth.

a great collection
Revisado: 10-16-24
This book was a little different than I'm used to. I read it with the Indigenous Reading Circle's pick for the month of September. I bought the audiobook and listened along while I skimmed through the pages of the paperback that I had gotten from my library. That was a fun immersive experience because the narrator of the audiobook did a great job at giving life to the different character's in the book.
I am usually not a fan of short story collections. It helped a bit that the stories in this book were really not connected at all. This book touches heavy on the idea of what womanhood is. It has a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle inferences to puberty, virginity, sexuality, sensuality, and the whole range of emotions and experiences that females go through. This book touches on love, and grief, and includes a lot of cultural references that help tie a lot of things together.
I enjoyed this book, and especially enjoyed being about to talk about this book with a group of individuals because some of the context in these stories needed to be explored through mutual conversation.

Slow burn with high emotions
Revisado: 02-27-24
This book has my whole heart! Josh and Drew's love was such a battle, and seemed nearly impossible, but the way this author wrote their HEA has left me feeling all the emotions!
Drew is a "pop princess" of sorts. She is a newly famous popstar with an overbearing management team. On a whirlwind trip to Hawaii she finds herself connecting to her on-again/off-again boyfriends family in a way she never expected. His mother is the mother she always wishes she had. His brother. At first is annoying, but quickly becomes the lifeline she's always needed.
In just a few weeks her life gets turned upside down, and it's all thanks to Josh, her ex-boyfriends brother. Josh is the epitome of what a good man is. He works in Africa for a Doctor's Without Borders type of organization, he loves the hell out of his mama, and he recognizes things in Drew that lead him to wanting to take care of her.
This book is such a perfectly paced slow burn, giving just enough angsty, swoony moments without crossing a line. Thanks to Valentine PR for providing a copy of the audiobook so I could experience this book all over again! Highly recommend!
