I really enjoyed this
Revisado: 03-21-23
I liked the careful world building. It is a dystopian YA novel. But I would disagree that it lacks originality. The setting in dystopian, post-apocalyptic London, for example.
I enjoyed the character development for both Scarlett and Albert. There is an interesting, predictable villain.
Overall a good, lighter listen. I am ready for the next installment.

You feel the marriage of Brando Sando and Dan wells.
I it is great see one of you favorite authors write outside of their normal groove. The story is great slow burn, it really draws you in and invested in the story and characters,

Excellent ending to the trilogy
Revisado: 12-18-22
This has a slowish start, but if you’ve made it to the third book, you know that about Melanie Rawn. The end of the book is quite spectacular and immediately made me want to read the follow up sequels.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Carey Mulligan is fantastic
Revisado: 11-27-22
Great narrator.
The story was an interesting take on near death experiences. I enjoyed the concept and the character development. I really felt like Norah grew as a human being. That was relatable and it felt genuine.
The ending was just ok, though. A little predictable. But it wasn’t bad.

Revisado: 11-21-22
This is one of the best books I’ve listened to all year. The story is engaging and Schwab makes me care very much about Addie and the other two main characters.
There are turns and surprises. I cried. And I laughed. A lot. It was honest and real, instead of simply being a fairytale.
A definite must read.

Fantastic plot, great magic system, incredible characters, great character growth, not a predictable storyline. He showed me an amazing world while focusing on a single village. The story stands by itself but could be a great beginning to a epic tale.
Well done!

Not as good as RP1.
Revisado: 01-14-21
Good parts that I liked? 1. Clever sequences and ideas about a possible alternate future in which an even more realistic VR simulation is discovered. 2. Lots of fun 80s references. 3. Saving humanity solution is interesting enough, but I have issues with it.
And... the rest of the book.
1. The author “tells” us everything instead of “showing” us. It’s rather pedantic (but that’s not different than the first book, just more of it).
2. RP1: and they lived happily ever after.
RP2: for 7 days. And then the main character becomes an unlikeable a**hat for roughly 1/2 of the book.
3. The plot is full of so many trite, unoriginal descriptions. Like “the jagged skyline of [insert city name here] (Bc this is such an overused phrase to describe a city skyline)
4. Several characters serve little purpose except to further the plot. We don’t actually need them or care about them. We don’t learn very much that is new about any of Wade’s friends. They are just there to complete the quest and provide suspense.
5. Magical artifacts show up randomly to save the day repeatedly. Especially the last deus ex machina at the end. Bc of course their is a magical artifact that will randomly fix all the things.
6. The sci-fi trope of the dangerous AI who will destroy humanity. Skynet? Cyborgs. You will be assimilated. Check.
7. And NOW it ends happily ever after Artemis/Samantha just forgives everything and it’s all better. Right. Got it.
So, not awful? But not great.

Changes 2.0 (but all battle and just as much game changing events to Dresden’s story)
Revisado: 09-30-20
Wow, it was great, PT and BG really need to be read in tandem. It was so fast paced. I went from laughing, crying, gasping, yelling at the characters, and back to laughing again. What a rollercoaster ride. Opened up doors to new parts of the universe to explore for story archs. Butcher is Making this series into an even larger epic story. Amazing how Butcher has grown Harry from a small time PI into a power for even the gods to respect. I love that Dresden keeps getting powered up but still gets the living $&@! beat out of him. Such an amazing character and story. Can’t wait for the next installment

Enchanting twist on Rumplestiltskin
Revisado: 06-18-20
This novel starts out as a retelling of the Rumplestiltskin fable and quickly turns into its own fantasy world and system of magic. Samantha Vitale has a talent for beautiful prose, which I thought paired well with Hallie Ricardo’s enchanting voice.
The plot and story are balanced between character development and action scenes. I very much enjoyed the character development of Sepha. We meet her as a terrified and abused young woman, who is also surprisingly resilient and defiant. She grows into herself and this part of the story is perfect for a YA fantasy novel.
There are some plot holes or maybe weak points? But I am wondering if those will be addressed in a sequel perhaps?
Overall, it’s a great first novel. I am hoping she’ll write a sequel!

Great listen. Will challenge your assumptions
Revisado: 05-23-20
Great story that is genuine, heartfelt and vulnerable. And also cringeworthy, funny, and sort of an eff you to people who are entitled and unaware.
That said, as someone is who somewhat aware and white, it is still kind of hard to read things that challenge what you’ve learned.
I was pretty much unaware of the history of Latino culture and how much had been wiped from history books. I knew basics, Columbus was probably not the hero he’s made to seem. White Europeans massacred millions of native people in North and South America. But outside of that I was mostly ignorant.
Books like this are necessary and important.
