I first read this book in college in 1963. It was the subject of a full semester and had a big impression on my life. For young people it is a very accurate picture of black history. For people my age, we think about how different or similar our lives were in 1959. Either way, it will touch your heart. It should be mandatory reading for every person in the country.

Too much rambling
Revisado: 03-28-19
I enjoyed this book and would recommend to others. However, I found that a lot of the scenes are simply too stretched out. Despite the theme of the book (terrorists operating in New Orleans), it does not more at a fast enough pace. I generally listen to unabridged books but, in this case, I think the the abridged might be more enjoyable. I found it a stretch that he is able to accomplish more than all the official agencies and that without him, the local police, the FBI and all the other agencies could not get anywhere until he gave them the lead to burst this plot wide open. I will say, it got exciting and fast-[aced in the last hour or two, but thee was too much extraneous material in the earlier parts. Still, I did enjoy the story and recommend it to others.

The White House is the home of the president of the United States, the most guarded, monitored, closely watched person in the world. So how could a US president vanish without a trace? And why would he choose to do so? An unprecedented collaboration between President Bill Clinton and the world's best-selling novelist, James Patterson, The President Is Missing is a breathtaking story from the pinnacle of power.

Not a typical Patterson
Revisado: 12-10-18
Since Patterson started collaborations, it is hard to know what to expect. In this case, the story line is pretty good, but it sometimes get lost in the mire of too may extraneous details. Occasionally, I felt frustrated about some of the "ramblings" that really add nothing to the story. The male voices are pretty good most of the time (even though many of them sound alike), but the female voices are terrible. Sometimes I could not tell if the speaker was supposed to be male or female. On the positive side, the leap into the world of terrorism and its affect on society is quite good, especially when the President decides that the terrorists are receiving assistance from someone on the President's staff. There is just too much extraneous material to hold my interest and I find my mind wandering during some of those sections. I would probably recommend it to other readers, but only if they have nothing pressing to listen to. No reason to put it at the top of your list.

Patterson at his best
Revisado: 08-12-18
This book was like the old James Patterson. It had a twist in that there were two stories interwined which kept the reader always waiting to see what came next. Although everyone knew Cross would be exonerated, it was interesting how he tied the skills of his son into the story. Recomend to everyone.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Not the Usual Stephen King
Revisado: 03-05-18
I am a huge Stephen King fan, but this one was over the edge. I did not like the narrator. Every voice sounded the same. In the beginning, I had a little trouble keeping track of the characters, but I thought possibly it might get better. The underlying premise of the story is not too bad (all the women are going into cocoons when they fall asleep); the problem is in the execution. I am not sure how to characterize it: mystery, fantasy, fright, but in any event, it is not that exciting. I did not like the introduction of forest animals as characters nor did I buy into some of the premises that were designed to lead the reader through the story. At the expense of a lot of time and great effort, I managed to finish the book, hoping there would be redeeming qualities at the end, but I was wrong. I do not recommend this book, even for King fans.

Misses the mark
Revisado: 01-05-18
I am a HUGE fan of the Victor series, but there is no question that this one falls short of the precedence set by the previous books in the series. Initially, it feels a little disjointed and skips around too much. The last 25% of the book improves significantly if you can last that long waiting for it. The biggest problem initially is that it jumps around too much - from one location to another and from current time to flash backs. The story was ok but still was better than most other authors. I would still recommend this book, but if you are a Victor fan, be prepared for some disappointment.

Newly minted chief resident at Boston Memorial Hospital Noah Rothauser is swamped in his new position, from managing the surgical schedules to dealing with the fallouts from patient deaths. Known for its medical advances, the famed teaching hospital has fitted several ORs as "hybrid operating rooms of the future" - an improvement that seems positive until an anesthesia error during a routine procedure results in the death of an otherwise healthy man.

Great medical novel
Revisado: 11-14-17
I enjoyed this book a lot, although I would not call it Robin Cook's best. It's futuristic element is actually one of the things that brings it down. I suggest a pass until you are desperate to find another medical novel for listening. Then it might be ok.

Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Not up to Par
Revisado: 11-14-17
I have always been a John Grisham fan. In the beginning, his novels were spectacular, but now, they seem to be hit and miss as to whether they will be good. This one is just ok It is fine to pass the time while you are driving, but is slow in spots. Also, having the lead characters as "bad guys" does not work well in this book. If I were only considering a few books, I would recommend it, but as there are so many good books out there, I would suggest you take a pass and wait until you are desperate to find a new book for listening.

New Series
Revisado: 07-31-17
I bought this believing it was a continuation of the Atlantis series. It is not, but I am very glad I got it. I think Peyton Shaw is one of my favorite all-time characters. Highly recommend.
The above was written in 2019. In 2020, I accidentally started it again not realizing I had already read it (not so memorable after all). I stopped when I had 4 hours left. It is way too long with not enough time spent on the story and too much detail on characters. Save your time for shorter, more direct books.
