I didn’t realize there was such a strong emphasis on astrology and astrology charts/readings and past lives. I’m not opposed to the planets/solar system having some influence on our emotions, but as a Christian, this is not my spiritual source or practice. I should have done more research before purchasing.

I enjoyed the second half of the book much more than the first half. The first half seemed to drag and the miscommunications and missed intentions became boring. I thought the young writer in the second part of the book was much more interesting and redeemed the book for me.

I struggle a bit with how alone David was in his illness and decline. He was ill and alone (except for meals dropped off). He was near death in the hospital while his wife was home having sex with her new found lover. This seemed like disrespectful timing. I understand their growing feelings for each other but didn’t see much compassion for a husband of two decades that needed help physically & emotionally. Just seemed he was deserted for someone his wife had known a few days. Alec, being the kind of man he was, made the appropriate decision to leave until the situation resolved.

I LOVED “Book Lovers”and “Beach Read,” the characters, the witty banter, and thoughtful romance. I didn’t feel the same about this book despite other’s positive reviews. The female character, Poppy, felt naive, self absorbed, and mostly annoying. The trips she and Alex took seemed miserable, from sweltering temps, smells, injuries, misunderstandings. Through the whole 12 year synopsis, you just wonder why “best friends” can’t discuss how they feel. By the time they get together it seems tired and stale. I kept looking at how much time was left to finish. The other two books I binged! This one didn’t do it for me.
