Take a tour through the horror paperback novels of two iconic decades...if you dare. Hear shocking plot summaries that invoke devil worship, satanic children, and haunted real estate! Horror author and vintage paperback book collector Grady Hendrix offers killer commentary and witty insight on these trashy thrillers that tried so hard to be the next Exorcist or Rosemary's Baby. Complete with story summaries and artist and author profiles, this unforgettable volume dishes on familiar authors like V. C. Andrews and R. L. Stine, plus many more.

Still giving the book 5 stars because it's so enjoyable.
However, the narration suffers from poor pronunciation throughout.

I really enjoyed this book. As with everything else by Charissa Dufour, the characters are the strongest part of this book. It's a fair bit heavier than her other novels I've read. I really liked it.

Decent
Revisado: 04-01-19
I was given a free copy of this book and am leaving this honest review of my own free will.
Story : Decent detective story. I've never read any other Jack Winchester books, but he was pretty standard.
Writing : Pretty decent, I've read some truly awful books, and while this isn't great, it's not even close to the bottom. Right in the middle.
Narrator : Really excellent. Good voices, good inflection. Would definitely look for him again

Remarkably bad
Revisado: 03-27-19
I was given a copy of this book and am leaving a fair and unbiased review.
Story : It's really hard to say. There are some pretty good story elements in here actually. The storytelling is very repetitive and convoluted though.
Writing : Truly difficult to get through. The same phrases get used over and over. The same descriptions were used frequently. "So and so tugged on his whiskers" It was cartoonish.
Narrator : I really hate leaving a negative comment about a narrator, but this was pretty bad. I've never listed to anything else by Luke Hannafin, so I don't know if this is par for the course. There was very little inflection on anything.

Revisado: 03-27-19
I was given a review copy of this, and am leaving my fair and unbiased review.
This book is ok. That's it. I really wish there was a 2.5 stars. 3 is too much, and 2 is too few.
Story : Decent, there were a few parts where I actually was very invested in the scene, otherwise kind of standard.
Writing : Writing was pretty good actually. Dialogue was believable.
Narrator : The Narrator was the best part of this book honestly. I feel that without Marisha Tapera, this audiobook would have lost me early on,

Very little payoff
Revisado: 03-19-19
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review
Narrator : The narration was middle of the road. Different intonations for each character, except that a few sounded very similar to one another
Story : This felt like it should have been another few hours longer. The whole book is buildup, for what feels like a very small payoff.

Revisado: 03-14-19
I received this for book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this book, but I found myself disinterested in the characters. They felt very flat to me. If hard boiled detective stories are your favourite thing, that's the only reason to listen. Otherwise, I'd say pass.

I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a very enjoyable listen. Charissa Dufour took what I enjoyed about the first book in the series and expanded on it. The world building was strong and I really was able to grasp all the things she was laying out. Dialogue was good, motivations were strong, and characters were clear. The narrator was excellent! Looking forward to book 3.
