Historia
Ren Monroe has spent four years proving she’s one of the best wizards in her generation. But top marks at Balmerick University will mean nothing if she fails to get recruited into one of the major houses. Enter Theo Brood. After a failed and disastrous party trick, fate has the two of them crossing paths at the public waxway portal the day before holiday. A fight breaks out. In the chaos, the portal spell malfunctions. All six students are snatched from the safety of the school’s campus and set down in the middle of nowhere. And one of them is dead on arrival.

This obviously a book for young women. I was mislead into thinking this was going to be good.

During utmost danger protagonists sexualizes peer. Unrealistic prattle with an unnecessary need for childish banter.

Cringe worthy listening for African American readers
Revisado: 04-18-24
Antiquated voices and poorly written descriptions of black life. This novel touches on the avoidance of stereotypes then proceeds to indulge in many of them. I still recommend this novel because it’s a unique take on the vampire genre and is genuinely creepy. Author Simmons really exposes his personal feelings on race not so much in the subject matter but in the character building portions. Tough read for this African American.

Historia
From electrifying horror author Nick Cutter comes a haunting new novel, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Stephen King's It, in which a trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous.

Warning every racial slur used to describe a black person is used in this book
Revisado: 01-03-23
This is a good horror novel. Some common errors, traveling at night when the monsters are active, but overall frightening with decent character development. The ‘black’ character in this book is called every slur you can imagine. It began to take away from the audiobook experience for me after so many n-words. Felt personal for the author to get this out of his system.

Overly sexafied
Revisado: 02-12-21
Enjoyed the first two books in the series. I’m stopping at chapter 10 to write a partial review. That last 4 chapters have been devoted to this author’s sexual frustrations. The continuous description of women’s bodies goes overboard throughly derailing the story. Seriously, it’s ridiculous
