What slog

Really love this series. However, book 7 really bogged down. I was hoping this book would pick up the pace again. Nope! This really should have only been about 6-7 hours long. Talk talk talk blah blah blah, Marc felt the need to show everyone what a deep thinker he was. STOP PLEAEE. Get back to what made the series great.

I agree with the Red Rising ripoff comments. I also agree with how good the authors first trilogy was. But I am not surprised by how far this book falls. As fans of the genre we never hold authors accountable. If they put out one good book, oh it’s 5 star reviews and all gushing praise( Rothfuss, Martin, O’Connors last book). So until we want to hold these authors accountable, we really should not complain about what we get.

Disappointed

The series is at a critical point. Does it pivot back to what made the first book great or continue down the teenage angst path of the second. Also, does Bryce realize that he has put Rei on the prototypical comic book super villain path? Weak youth, undergoes tragedy, abandonment, bullying and then lucks into great power and becomes everything he hated. Rei is turning into a whiny little b who goes after everyone who doesn’t agree with how he sees things. And no one has been through their own hell growing up, just him.

Made it halfway thru but with the MC turning into a whining, self doubting , little b. And Abby turning into a complaining shrew, I just couldn’t do it anymore. Sad really, Bc I enjoyed the first two books.

Enjoyed but...

To be fair, I thoroughly enjoy this series and will continue to listen ; however, for someone who is supposedly one of the best operators in the world King sure relies on luck a helluva lot. How come everyone seems to get the drop on him?

I really like the series but it just seems like the “good” guys are absolute morons. Constantly outplayed and maneuvered but I’m sure they will all the sudden become brilliant in the final book. I know we read to escape reality but come on Gwynn, one side can’t be out strategized this bad for two books and then still come out on top, it’s idiotic
