Historia
Elizabeth Bennet made her sister a promise on her deathbed: to love and care for her son, young Charles Bingley, like her very own child. And so she did, for four years, until the boy's guardian, Fitzwilliam Darcy showed up in Meryton, insisting on removing the boy from his aunt, his life, and everything he knew, to be raised at Pemberley.

great story
Revisado: 01-11-25
This story has excellent twists and, though it has many gothic elements, is very funny at times. Saye is especially amusing!

Historia
Max and Annie Kingsley have left the London rat race with their twelve-year-old son to set up a glamping site in the wilds of Cornwall. Eager for a dry run ahead of their opening, they invite three old university friends and their families for a long-needed reunion. But the festivities soon go awry as tensions arise between the children (and subsequently their parents), explosive secrets come to light, and a sudden storm moves in, cutting them off from help as one in the group disappears.

Good overall
Revisado: 10-08-24
This was overall pretty good, and the male narrator was great, but the female narrator made nearly constant swallowing sounds, akin to a giant wad of mashed potatoes in her mouth. It was very upsetting and off-putting.

Historia
It is 1922, and London is tense. Ex-servicemen are disillusioned; the out-of-work and the hungry are demanding change. And in South London, in a genteel Camberwell villa, a large silent house now bereft of brothers, husband, and even servants, life is about to be transformed, as impoverished widow Mrs. Wray and her spinster daughter, Frances, are obliged to take in lodgers.

This is gross.
Revisado: 08-30-24
Given that this is billed as a historical romance, I was not expecting an illicit lesbian love affair. I think the descriptions of pubic hair and vaginal fluids is disgusting and unnecessary. They act like animals in heat and its just gross. It completely ruins the story. Do not purchase.

An awkward, pedestrian effort from a legend.
Revisado: 05-22-24
Ill start with the good parts: The villians are nightmare fuel, the pacing is great, and the tension is great.
The negative parts: listening to the Holly in this story reminded me of excitedly opening christmas gifts as a small child and receiving socks. It was as though King was so focused on his political soapbox(which did add to immersion, and werent a negative )that he forgot his own character. The complete difference in Holly took what would have been a great story to one that is just ok. It is a solid 3.The change of narrator was also a mistake. Overall, its not quite a miss, more like a "read of you have absolutely no other options".This by itself is not concerning, but after having read 2 recent King novels, this and Fairytale, i worry that this lazy, slapdash storytelling will be his new norm. I almost expected to find the phrase "after a long moment", which would prove, once and for all, that King is done.
Mr. King: Stop writing, or do better. Please dont continue to circle the drain like this.

Good, but main character annoyed me a little
Revisado: 03-10-20
Overall, this was a good book, and well written. I have three points of critique
1.The main character would have been more believable and relatable if she were in her 20s. I say that because she spent SO LONG being terrified by a man who never upped his game. She should have gotten her Sh*t together A LOT sooner than she did.
2. Everything- steel shutters, bars on windows, doorknobs, doorhinges, etc. have screws. I have a hard time believing she really couldn't have escaped. Also, walls made of wood can be broken through. How bad does she want out?
3. The biggest issue I have with the book is the main characters unwillingness to cross the line of totally insane. Two places he cant follow her are jail and radiology- so, either go insane and stabby in front of a hundred people when he takes her out in public, or just jump in front of a vehicle. either way, she could take care of her sister and the sadistic prick and he wouldn't have access to her. I think she gave up too quickly and it annoyed me.
I really did enjoy this book, though!
