Historia
A thirty-four-year-old American woman—a secret agent—is sent to do dirty work in France. “Sadie Smith” is how the narrator introduces herself to her lover, to the rural commune of French subversives on whom she is keeping tabs, and to the reader. Sadie has met her love, Lucien, a young and well-born Parisian, by “cold bump”—making him believe the encounter was accidental. Like everyone Sadie targets, Lucien is useful to her and used by her. Sadie operates by strategy and dissimulation, based on what her “contacts”—shadowy figures in business and government—instruct.

Awful
Revisado: 02-25-25
The narration is poor, largely because it is read by the author. The novel itself is worse. Pretentious and yet very stupid with one of the worst ma I n characters I've run across in some time. I literally manages to somehow both be anyi-intellectual while pretending to be smart. Anti female, anti liberal, and just ugly. Awful.

Historia
At the approach of the first millennium, the Christians of Europe did not seem likely candidates for future greatness. They saw no future beyond the widely anticipated Second Coming of Christ. But when the world did not end, the peoples of Western Europe suddenly found themselves with no choice but to begin the heroic task of building a Jerusalem on Earth. In The Forge of Christendom, Tom Holland masterfully describes this remarkable new age, a time of caliphs and Viking sea kings, the spread of castles, and the invention of knighthood.

better as a physical or ebook
Revisado: 11-14-23
I enjoyed some things about this. The performances were great. The ending....wasn't really an ending. It just stops, which is frustrating. This might have been better if it was released as a series of linked stories or novellas. But the worst part was...reading text messages and...good gods...POWERPOINTS. That works better in a standard book, not an audio book. Not the narrators fault, mind...they did their best. Bit maybe avoid this in audio.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Warning: Audiobook is not complete book
Revisado: 08-04-23
When on a whim I picked up a physical copy, discovered this audiobook is missing the Dramatis Personae at the start...which provides CRUCIAL in-universe context. ALSO, missing the notes on the Galaxy from the end. What a shame. The barrators are good and the story is fine. But it is a tragedy to be missing things that are important to the story.

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Author Mac Barron assures us that Jesus loves us, even though we're human. We know this, because the Bible says so. Over and over and over again. With its hilarious, sometimes irreverent, and always humble reflections, this book will make you laugh and help you look at the Bible - and yourself - in a whole new way.

Lame humor + mediocre theology = ugh
Revisado: 06-02-23
Maybe the humor works better on the page - it doesn't on the audio book. some of it is overly simple "men do this! women be that!" but some was just lame dad jokes. There was a point to be made here about WHY the disciples are written this way, but the author doesn't make it. Instead, it is all played as literal truth, which is not what catholics believe. I mean...modern catholic theology doesn't believe Jonah was literally inside a whale for 3 days. And the disciples were written this way for real reasons...but none of that is explored.
