Historia
A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab, and soon, you'll be matched with your perfect partner - the one you're genetically made for. That's the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: Test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance, and love.

Dark and disturbing
Revisado: 04-15-25
This book has some of the most disturbing characters I have come across in recent reading. Very twisted storylines. Keeps you on the edge.

Historia
In the middle of the night, a woman wakes to find her beloved city engulfed in flames. Ten seemingly endless years of conflict between the Greeks and the Trojans are over. Troy has fallen. From the Trojan women whose fates now lie in the hands of the Greeks, to the Amazon princess who fought Achilles on their behalf, to Penelope awaiting the return of Odysseus, to the three goddesses whose feud started it all, these are the stories of the women whose lives, loves, and rivalries were forever altered by this long and tragic war.

Love the perspective. It’s about time we heard about what the women had to experience during the Trojan war.

Historia
Indian American journalist Smita has returned to India to cover a story, but reluctantly: long ago she and her family left the country with no intention of ever coming back. As she follows the case of Meena—a Hindu woman attacked by members of her own village and her own family for marrying a Muslim man—Smita comes face to face with a society where tradition carries more weight than one’s own heart, and a story that threatens to unearth the painful secrets of Smita’s own past.

Very slow at times. Some quite violent scenes and difficult topics but thought provoking and great study of character metamorphosis

Historia
Kate Burns grows up wanting attention from her Ma, but her Ma wants only money and Kate learns how to get both. She and her childhood friend, Lacey, run kissing lessons for cash in the janitor’s closet of Fenbrook High, and just like that, they find themselves in the sex work industry. From there, they go on to work at The Purple Panther, a strip club in Auckland. When Ma dies of cancer, Kate discovers that the men her Ma was always inviting over to their home were, in fact, clients. Ma was no stranger to sex work either.

Character accents were terrible

Story was weak and not believable. Light reading but somewhat entertaining. Like bad reality tv as a book.

Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

The long and irritating rants about the publishing industry.
Revisado: 12-22-23
The repetitive and far too lengthy strains in this book about publishing and the main characters wants/needs is too much. I got the memo the first couple of times it was touched upon but it ended up being beaten into the narrative relentlessly. It is definitely a page turner but not a good story.

I love Dolly but terrible writing.
Revisado: 10-02-22
This novel is so many levels of cheesy. The believability factor is so low, I spent most of the time cringing while listening to this book.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 01-07-22
The story is slow but it feels purposefully so. It’s not about the actions and events that happen but how they make people feel and how they are affected. One person might say it is boring but another might be inspired to think more deeply about their own relationships and affects of their life choices. Bravo!
