Historia
When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

I am sure I’m in the minority
Revisado: 10-12-23
I loved the book, like truly. Although I watched the movie first, after listening to this book I enjoyed the changes they made, especially to Alex’s character. He had a bit more depth in the movie than this book—but I am not sure if that’s actually because of the writing or because of the way he was narrated. I enjoyed when Ramon did accents because I feel like he had more contrast with the emotions of the characters—while Alex came across as grossly snarky even in intimate moments where I think if they were read in a softer tone it would have added even more interest to the scenes and I might actually have liked book Alex. So, I’m going to buy a hard copy and read it myself because I can’t believe with this beautiful story that the author really intended him to give readers the ick.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Favorite book this year so far!
Revisado: 04-03-23
I’ve never met a character like Gideon. Raucous and clever, sarcastic and foul, queer and all the things society tells us she should not be but she is my favorite because of that.

Historia
You may think you know this story. There's a young queen about to be married. There are some good, brave, hardy dwarfs; a castle shrouded in thorns; and a princess cursed by a witch, so rumor has it, to sleep forever. But no one is waiting for a noble prince to appear on his trusty steed here. This fairy tale is spun with a thread of dark magic, which twists and turns and glints and shines.

Controversial?
Revisado: 01-29-16
When I heard Neil wrote a book about sleeping beauty where a queen kisses the princess I was thrilled. After reading it, I didn't find any of the nonsense everyone was tittering about. I found wonderful Neil Gaiman prose, but none the lesbian love story I desired.

Historia
People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

ugh
Revisado: 06-27-12
I still haven't even finished this. The Narration is distracting, kind of a Woody Allen feel to the character because of it, and I am not a Woody Allen fan. I loved the idea of the story, but the execution was a turn off.

Historia
It is 1863, but not the one it should be. Time has veered wildly off course, and moves are being made that will lead to a devastating world war. Prime Minister Lord Palmerston believes that by possessing the three Eyes of Naga he'll be able to manipulate events and avoid the war. He already has two of the stones, but he needs Sir Richard Francis Burton to recover the third.

Ended too Quickly
Revisado: 06-27-12
I think even Mark Hodder could agree that these Characters and their steampunk adventure could have gone on for several more books. The only reason I gave this story four stars is because it was too much information in one book, it was hard to keep up! But, it needed an ending and he tied most everything together.

Historia
When a clockwork-powered man of brass is found abandoned in Trafalgar Square, Burton and his assistant, the wayward poet Algernon Swinburne, find themselves on the trail of the stolen Garnier Collection - black diamonds rumored to be fragments of the Lemurian Eye of Naga, a meteorite that fell to Earth in prehistoric times. His investigation leads to involvement with the media sensation of the age: the Tichborne Claimant, a man who insists that he's the long lost heir to the cursed Tichborne estate.

But, this book was also another great addition to the steampunk genre. Genius use of Characters and Dialogue. And the Narrator is officially another favorite of mine!

Steampunk the way it should be
Revisado: 06-27-12
This is why I like history. These are real people. Richard Burton existed in real life. He was all the things that Mark Hodder wrote about his character and back story and then suddenly the story takes a turn and you are thrown into this fantastic steam-punk world filled with all your literary and historical heroes. I can't tell you how many times I consulted the internet, or even my college world history books, just to see if the latest bit he wrote was a true-to-life characteristic of this person, or if it was his own interpretation of who they might have become in this situation, and because of that I learned so much history it wasn't even funny. I took classes on some of these people and never had I once became so enthralled that I suddenly needed to know more about them. I am well read on Richard Burton, Algernon Swinburne, Oscar Wilde, and so many others now because of this book. So I have more than expanded my education over just picking up a single book.

Why are Kids books so good???
Revisado: 06-27-12
Jim Dale is by far my favorite narrator. He brings each character to life with the magical tones of his voice, lending to great story telling! But, by far with this book, he had a great story to work with! I'm a huge Peter Pan fan, but was unsure about these stories since they are a reworking of the story and they are geared towards YA, but I loved it regardless. Something I'm keeping to share with my kids some day.
