Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Where I believe it shines, others might find it lacking…
Revisado: 12-27-24
To set the table, I think it is relevant that I am a homicide investigator and I have overseen over 1000 homicides and more than 100 officer-involved shootings. This is not to purport that I am an expert in any way, but instead to say that even with so many investigations under my belt and one of the best teams available to me, we don’t always get it right. Also, and as a more salient point, where the author may draw a conclusion from a fact, I often see it different when I put myself into the situation.
I believe this is an excellent investigative piece by the author. I believe the best part of it is that the author is honest. You can find countless books where coincidences and loose threads are taped together and stated to the audience that they are undeniable facts. The author didn’t do that here. The reality of the world is an unfortunate one, and that is that in homicide investigations, sometimes only the victim and the suspect truly know what happened. It doesn’t matter how much I wish for evidence to exist, the sad truth is that it sometimes just doesn’t.
The whole truth of this travesty will likely never be known and as people die and notes and photos fade, it becomes less and less likely. What this author did, was took you on his journey to try. He uncovered facts that no one has before and didn’t try to weave a fantasy together. He did the right thing and just took you through it.
This is a tremendous piece of work and I highly recommend it. Just don’t hope for the smoking gun or you will be disappointed.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

The acting is super distracting
Revisado: 03-26-24
The source material is really good. It helps you to understand the movie better than the movie could have ever told the story.
I only have one complaint… and it is big… I don’t know why and I don’t know how they didn’t catch it… but the characters change voices frequently throughout the performance.
For example, at some points, the Duke sounds like Darth Vader and other parts has an odd accent!! Like what is going on here. Fortunately they read the book word for word so you know who is talking, but it is super distracting.
I imagine they recorded the book over several sessions and pieced together different parts from different sessions but forgot about continuity. Several of the characters go back and forth with their voices.
So odd…
