your heart will break and mend and your mind will what justice.
Revisado: 06-21-24
This book broke my heart, as many do in this subject matter....the breadth of human cruelty and also the expanse of human love. The changing of voices throughout the narrative was sometimes jarring. Overall, it is a solid read/listen. I still want to visit this beautiful country and see the towns mentioned.

it took me years to read this and I didn't know wh
Revisado: 03-21-23
I've picked this up to read multiple times over the past few years. I couldn't ever bring myself to. not because I don't like ghosts, badguys and good but for a reason I couldn't place so I waited.
I now feel akin to the amazing author who penned it, he knew the story and wanted to tell it but felt not ready too or not good enough and he saw it also needed him.to grow up as a parent into the stages....
I got this when my son was small. my greatest fear was him losing me (divorced sole custody single mom) and who would raise my sweetboy. we are now knocking in teenager door and I feel that is why I had to wait. I too needed to see that I too will have to let him go.
This book hit my heart on the levels of people being forgotten, skills being lost and stories never told. It is as much a kids story as it is the parents.

Quite Possibly my favorite of them all
Revisado: 07-10-21
I am a bibliophile. I love banned books. I am a strong woman, who comes from trail blazers and those who refused to be quiet. Survivors and far from saints yet their stories are in my heart. This book is like a love letter to those women through the years who refuse to be quiet, who refused to be told they couldn't do something and stood tall in the face of all adversity. Read this, listen to it, savor it.

The Adventures of Tom Bombadil is a collection of poetry written by J. R. R. Tolkien and was first published in 1962. The audio is read by Sir Derek Jacobi and is a collection of 16 poems that contain an assortment of bestiary verse and fairy tale rhyme. Racism, heart and questions
Revisado: 02-05-21
Written in 1940 it speaks of racism in a vague way of it was just how it was. Seeing a family divided with it is an account many of us are taught in school. What struck me, being the a mother of a mixed race kiddo in 2021, is how than and now the target was on them. To be hounded and unsafe, many women have felt that and still we have systems in place that do harm as often as help for the victims. How many voices have we lost in slavery, oppression, genocide and just intolerance? It is well written and it has left me wanting and needing to learn more.

Historia
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Fascinating
Revisado: 08-27-20
This period in history has always been an area I enjoy reading about. This course taught me new information on how it was handled by the various governments around the world at the time as well as churches and towns. The way she structured each lecture made them informative, succinct and with plenty of options for further reading and exploration of the history around it.
I can't help but see how poorly the Covid-19 outbreak has been handled in my country and see the parallels to the ruling class who fleed, didn't care and were prideful and egotistical and how it cost thousands their lives and livelyhoods, just like in the plague pandemics. How people as a whole, can forget our own histories of infectious diseases and how woefully unprepared our communities are as our culture and capitalistic societies are on a whole geared to be reactive, not preventive, not be more alarmed by the superbugs, tb, other sars strains and plague baffles me a bit. The similarities are chilling.
To echo our speaker, the resilience of people is also the greatest gift. I happen to adore poetry and give thanks for Canterbury Tales and have enjoyed them. Hearing old english spoken aloud was equally wonderful. I always miss learning, this made me long for a lecture hall. Also, my 9 year old said it was really interesting to hear about how people survived such scary times. He felt the whole series was "really cool and he felt like he learned something his peers may not know and that was awesome."

A book of adventure and friendships
Revisado: 09-14-19
This was recommended to me by a person who lnew my love of Merlin and Middleearth, Earthsea and Landover as a series I should try out. I had seen the film based on the second book as a child. I must say I love them equally for what they teach. Courage in the face of fear and still being afraid. Friendships that is brutally honest and fiercely loyal and growing as a person. It is a story a fantasy lover will enjoy.
The naration is well done. I enjoy the voices and the quality of creating moments in the text.

This book has been on my "to read" list for quiet some time. I enjoyed the narration and the story did not disappoint. I liked the dynamic between Howl and Sophie. They both grew so much as characters. I recommend this to those who love a story that has some magic and humor.
