A Great Listen!!
Revisado: 05-20-24
My husband and I chose to listen to Paul's book each night just before retiring. Although not mariners, we are ancient compared to Paul. Thus we were pleasantly surprised at how immediately the book drew us in
by its theme, its twists & turns and entrancing narration. Our lack of familiarity of a sailor's lingo did not detract from our total enjoyment.
We all have dreams. Paul's recounting of the challenges of following that dream and the satisfaction of his achieving that step inspired us and will inspire anyone who chooses to follow theirs.

Historia
Bud Threadgoode grew up in the bustling little railroad town of Whistle Stop with his mother, Ruth, church-going and proper, and his Aunt Idgie, the fun-loving hell-raiser. Together they ran the town's popular Whistle Stop Cafe, known far and wide for its fun and famous fried green tomatoes. And as Bud often said of his childhood to his daughter, Ruthie, "How lucky can you get?"

Hearing the author read her book was such a joy!! It made this novel seem like nonfiction. I know some Southern ladies after whom the characters could have been based. Thanks, Ms. Flagg!

Historia
Elisabeth Tova Bailey tells the intimate and inspiring story of her year-long encounter with a snail. While an illness keeps her bedridden, she becomes an astute and amused observer of the snail's surprising nocturnal adventures as it lives in a flowerpot on her nightstand. Intrigued by the snail’s clear decision making abilities, hydraulic locomotion, mysterious courtship, and molluscan anatomy, Bailey takes the listener deep into the life of this tiny amazing animal. With wit and grace, The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating recounts a remarkable journey of human and gastropod survival and resilience, and shows how the natural world illuminates our own human existence. Winner of the William Saroyan International Prize for Nonfiction, the John Burrough Medal Award for Natural History, and a National Outdoor Book Award. If you enjoyed Wesley the Owl, The Guest Cat, and Marley & Me, you'll enjoy this unique interspecies audiobook listen.

Small Mollusk leads to a Grand Perspective of Life
Revisado: 12-12-20
From the moment I began listening to "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating" I was a captive audience. Even before, I was intrigued by the title.
Our place in the world - the snail's, mine and all other sentient beings. Mobility as a freedom. Finding purpose in all circumstances.
And much more . . . I thank the author for writing this book which excited me, awakened new perspectives and has given me some life-long lessons for happiness.
