Historia
Surprise! We're back a week early with an absolute behemoth. To celebrate hitting 1 million downloads of the show a few months ago (!!), we're proud to present our one-hundred favorite games of the decade from the years 2000 to 2009! A sincere thank you to everyone who has ever listened to, shared, or backed the show. We couldn't have done this without you, for real. We thought there was no better way to share our gratitude than by following up the fan-favorite GOTD episode we did in 2019. And for those of you who DO back the show, make sure to head over to our Patreon to hear ANOTHER episode ...

Historia
In So You Want to Talk About Race, Ijeoma Oluo offers a contemporary, accessible take on the racial landscape in America, addressing head-on such issues as privilege, police brutality, intersectionality, micro-aggressions, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the "N" word. Perfectly positioned to bridge the gap between people of color and white Americans struggling with race complexities, Oluo answers the questions listeners don't dare ask and explains the concepts that continue to elude everyday Americans.

A Reminder to Read Books that Make You Uncomfortable

Incredible
Revisado: 05-24-21
These were my favorite quotes from this book.
"Talk. Please talk and talk and talk some more. But also act. Act now. Because people are dying now in this unjust system. How many lives have been ground up by racial prejudice and hate? How many opportunities have we already lost? Act and talk and learn."
The next one is a great reminder and I think it is really important to remember. People can be so caught up in their image or trying not to take responsibility for their words or actions that they refuse to apologize. Take responsibility. Have some kindness.
"Apologize. You've done something that hurt another human being. Even if you don't fully understand why or how, you should apologize. It is the decent thing to do when you respect people. You don't have to totally get it to know you don't want to continue doing something that hurts people."
Stop trying to invalidate how someone feels about something. You cannot tell someone how much something has hurt them. Instead of talking over someone, listen and respond with love and compassion.
"I've lost count of the times I have had to end a conversation about race because instead of listening and engaging they were trying to deny my experiences as a woman of color and bully me into agreeing with them only to have them reach out later that day to ask me to join them for coffee in order to talk some more about the subject. After a few times of agreeing to talk some more and once again finding myself talked over, I realized that talk was all they wanted to get out of it."
This was an incredible book. I also strongly recommend Mediocre by the same author.

Incredible
Revisado: 04-16-21
Michelle Hodkin is incredibly talented. This book was fantastic! I have to say the only downside to me, was the "Before" sections. I don't usually enjoy when a story changes from chapter to chapter so I'm sure that is just a personal issue. However, I love the love story and the twists. The twists are incredible and literally had my jaw dropping. I am so excited to read the next one in the series and to read Noah's books too!

She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong.

Historia
Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

Historia
When we hear a lie from someone we trust, their words became our recordings of truth. They become the music we dance to - or don't dance to. Someone has told you you’re not good enough, or maybe they’ve said you’re too much. Too whatever - else. You may have had a recording trapped in your head. You’ve tried to change the song, but no matter what you do, somehow that loop is stuck on repeat. I get it. I get you. Right now, you’re holding my story, my recording, my mixtape. My mission, sweet friend, is to help you silence that recording you’ve had playing on repeat.

Excellent book and quick listen
Revisado: 01-01-21
This book is beautiful. Kate talks about the pain that causes us to have negative thoughts and "recordings". She talks about how she was able to change her recordings into positive tracks that have turned her into a gladiator. She is open, honest, humble, funny, smart, and so encouraging. I can't wait for more people to read this. I genuinely think this book will help everyone who reads it.
