Starts slow, but escalates
Revisado: 02-13-25
At the start you go along as the story sets up, but then it kind of just reaches a plateau and stays almost until the end when something happens. It's a generic soace singularity event story with some unique twists. the narrator does as always a very good job and even innovates with sound effects.

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

A fresh POV, another great story
Revisado: 12-30-24
The young woman point of view can be annoying to experience as a man, yet is very refreshing. This is the second book out of hundreds I've read that seems to be written by a woman with the point of view of a woman (a young woman). Women do seem to think differently after all.
It makes me wonder - is this difference real? Would explain much if so.
The story and narration are again very well done and improved upon the first book.
Looking forward to more.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

In the mind of a hero, young woman version
Revisado: 12-07-24
The primary difference this story has to any other I've listened to so far, is that it seems to follow a young woman's train of thought. Which seems to be very different than how a man thinks. Huh... This is refreshing.
This point of view has feelings empathized and as well what a woman wants in a man.
Setting that aside, the story is a fresh view into the style that has young adults into "schools" where students are set against each other in a sort of battle Royale with rules. very similar to Red rising.
Also, there are dragons.

Historia
David Ignatius is known for his uncanny ability, in novel after novel, to predict the next great national security headline. In Phantom Orbit, he presents a story both searing and topical, with stakes as far-reaching as outer space. It follows Ivan Volkov, a Russian student in Beijing, who discovers an unsolved puzzle in the writings of the seventeenth-century astronomer Johannes Kepler. He takes the puzzle to a senior scientist in the Chinese space program and declares his intention to solve it.

Objects in Space, pwnt Edition
Revisado: 11-26-24
This story is so well written, so interwoven with recent historical events, and so well attached to reality for people that are even just accidentally familiar with this subject that at one point I had to stop listening and check the internet if this was somehow a completely true story - almost! I was wondering until the very end.
For example, I believe I know exactly what is that "Apollo" building full of satellite dishes in SoCal near the 405 which is not a secret to anyone that ever drove through there, but which I believe most have no idea what really is or does and did.
In fact, this story is so orbitally and scientifically accurate it could only be more if it went into detail about how general relativity and all the engineering related to GPS works, which you can learn about in an university near that building :D
Overall the story/plot is also very good which is often not the case with scientifically accurate stories.
The narrator of course does a very good job with accents and moods.
I just hope this story is more of a warning to America's enemies and not so much as a wake up for our own.

Non-stop action
Revisado: 11-20-24
The story is only 8hrs, but there is a short 2hr berserker tanker novella at the end, which imo is very good.
Also, while the Ryzer story continies, I feel like even though the stakes were higher than ever, the overall plot quality is declining I think because of the need to connect the character to the over global plot. You really feel the contrast against the novella which is just as good as any of the authors other works.
Still, if you have listened so far, you probably like this and won't be disappointed by the non-stop action, and the narrator continues to output brilliant work.
Looking forward to more.

Historia
For years, while Iran and North Korea kept Western diplomats busy, China and Russia have been quietly seeding the US with spies and soldiers. Now, a silent army of occupation lurks inside US borders, and for America, it is already too late. When the assault begins—via an EMP strike that disables the US electrical grid and neutralizes her defenses all in one fell swoop—the US is caught completely unprepared. The nation is lost, and it is up to ordinary citizens to defend their cities, towns, neighborhoods, or even just their families.

Slow to start
Revisado: 11-09-24
The story is very slow to pickup, and leaves on a cliffhanger for more things to come.
The entire setup is absurd, but not impossible.
The story telling is done through the eyes of the main characters so the listener is starved of information just like them, always leaving you wanting for more.
One thing that annoyed me is that all foreigners have Persian accents, as done by the narrator. He does a good Russian accent but listening to Chinese characters as if they have Persian accents is confusing - it would be best not to have accent if you can't make it.

Historia
There have always been whispers. Legends. The warrior who cannot be killed. Who’s seen a thousand civilizations rise and fall. He has had many names: Unute, Child of Lightning, Death himself. These days, he’s known simply as “B.” And he wants to be able to die. In the present day, a U.S. black-ops group has promised him they can help with that. And all he needs to do is help them in return. But when an all-too-mortal soldier comes back to life, the impossible event ultimately points toward a force even more mysterious than B himself. One at least as strong. And one with a plan all its own.

What a journey
Revisado: 10-28-24
It is not everyday that one comes upon a new and unique story so well written and performed.
I believe that this will appeal to any palate, if genres were flavors, because the theme and the delivery are so well thought and done that I fail to detect a scenario in which a person will not appreciate it.
A life cursed and gifted to never end, to never have children, to never forget and to watch all you ever see and meet die and wither.
What would you do with such power? Become the emperor of mankind? Guide humanity through time over eons, steering us all towards some goal as the hidden hand? What great work could inspire one to continue without despair?
I don't know, but I shall think upon it.

He has been roped into searching for a politician’s missing son and an industry magnate’s missing daughter. He has been kidnapped, violated numerous laws, and caused the destruction of colonial facilities. Revisado: 10-09-24
I know what I am getting but this first entry of this new trilogy is really just the first third of the story split into three. I thought this would be a story by itself at least, but it isn't and it just abruptly stops. Hopefully it gets better as this authors works tend to be really good.

There is no buildup. The story starts and doesn't let go. Raptors vs Giant Wasps vs Humans vs Nature. Kill or be killed. I'm the end, will any survive? Cant wait to see a movie for this, would be awesome to watch.
