Jeremy Irons does an excellent job with this story. I thoroughly enjoyed listening. Bravo

Can't go wrong with a book on Lincoln, although there are a lot of personal opinions on what Lincoln might or might not do.

Very frustrating when the book restarts every time you want to listen. I had to fast forward to where I left off.

Horror story that we are currently living through! Let's hope it turns out to be a work of fiction.

Not sure that women ruling only during crisis proves that Egypt was more comfortable with female rulers.

Like others, this book highlights how inequality is a problem. However here the dismal science is blamed for the growth of the inequality in question. Not all economists are the same of course and this year's crop of Nobel Laureates shows that there are some who realize that something has to give. Excellent book and pretty good narration. Some spots had discernable volume and tone changes but overall pretty good.

Jared Diamond follows his previous book about how some societies came to dominate the world with Collapse about how others fell apart. We are not immune to the mistakes and ultimate fate of previous societies if we continue to ignore the damage we are doing to the planet that we all share. As far as Dr. Diamond is concerned, the world cannot handle even the status quo over the long term much less the continued expansion of both population and living standards of the first world.

You leave a little depressed and exasperated with just how small one can feel in the face of overwhelming problems and begin to see the resource depletion and environmental degradation he mentions everywhere. Each of us can do our part and ask our elected leaders to care. But ultimately just like he says, it is politically unpalatable to ask the first world citizens to lower their living standards. Until we are ready and willing to make the tough sacrifices, we probably continue on the dangerous path of speeding up the day when we leave our own planet uninhabitable for our species.

This book made me think about how to watch others and analyze their behavior. We must also put ourselves under the microscope from time to time and see how our behavior may be sabotaging our goals and relationships.

Engaging narrative that opens ones eyes to how the peddlers of influence are able to use psychology to sway our decision making process and capture our compliance.

Dr Harrari has done it again with another contemplative work. He lays out the truth of the stories we tell ourselves and each other that tie societies together and also serve to rip them apart. The naked truth of why we have been so successful as a species but remain simultaneously so destructive to ourselves and our environment is all wrapped up in our ability to create fictions. He also warns of the dangers of the intersection between info tech and bio tech and the potential for species altering changes as the science of each and that of artificial intelligence continues to improve. This book kept me engaged from beginning to end!
