Historia
The New England Mafia was a hugely powerful organization that survived by using violence to ruthlessly crush anyone that threatened it, or its lucrative gambling, loansharking, bootlegging, and other enterprises. From information based on newly declassified documents and the use of underworld sources, Boston Mob spans the gutters and alleyways of East Boston, Providence, and Charlestown to the halls of Congress in Washington, D.C., and Boston's Beacon Hill. Its players include governors and mayors, and the Mafia Commission of New York City.

needs a better narrator

audio would have been more tolerable if it was read with a Boston accent.
takes a while for the threads to be tied together but otherwise may put you to sleep while driving

Historia
Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Historia
In the small village of Kilbane, County Cork, Ireland, Natalie's Bistro has always been warm and welcoming. Nowadays, 22-year-old Siobhan O'Sullivan runs the family bistro named for her mother, along with her five siblings, after the death of their parents in a car crash almost a year ago. It's been a rough year for the O'Sullivans, but it's about to get rougher. One morning, as they're opening the bistro, they discover a man seated at a table with a pair of hot pink barber scissors protruding from his chest.

frustrating (spoilers)
Revisado: 11-08-22
I "read" this for my bookclub and was able to finish my homework. It was obvious to me where this plot was going and Miranda should have been smart enough to not drag out this clue game. Granted she's a history teacher and not a historian but even an amateur knows to find out the date of a death without pulling a birth certificate would go back to the cemetery gravesite. Death dates are typically engraved on headstones. If I were reading a physical copy of this I would not have finished and thrown it against the wall. Instead I found myself driving at night alone and yelling at my radio.
Narrator was average. She was not strong on voices and if the structure was flashbacks in the text it was awkwardly either read or edited so a listener has a bit of trouble.

Historia
Two years into World War II, Britain is feeling her losses: The Nazis have won battles, the Blitz has destroyed cities, and U-boats have cut off the supply of food. In an effort to help housewives with food rationing, a BBC radio program called The Kitchen Front is holding a cooking contest - and the grand prize is a job as the program’s first-ever female co-host. For four very different women, winning the competition would present a crucial chance to change their lives.

not my cup of tea
Revisado: 11-09-18
Narrator was great and easy on the ear, even at 1.5x speed.
So much of the underlying story was lost in unnecessary details and sidetracks. Like why do we need a page worth of background on a very minor character?
If it weren't for this being a book club book and audible, I wouldn't have made it past the first chapter.

Historia
A big-shouldered, big-trouble thriller set in mobbed-up 1920s Chicago - a city where some people knew too much and where everyone should have known better - by the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of The Untouchables and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Glengarry Glen Ross. Mike Hodge - veteran of the Great War, big shot of the Chicago Tribune, medium fry - probably shouldn't have fallen in love with Annie Walsh. Then again, maybe the man who killed Annie Walsh should have known better than to trifle with Mike Hodge.

Dialoge awkward
Revisado: 06-12-18
I don't know if it's the reader or the fact that Mamet is known more for scripts than for novels, but the dialogue when read aloud seems stilted. The words themselves within the quotes are fine, it's more the overuse of said that got to me after a while.
I will probably have to read or listen to this again at some point to really review the story plot aspect.
