I liked that there was a really intriguing political plot that is quite relevant to this Political climate. When one is a regular working person we tend to think wealthy people have a life of ease in which everything is sunshine and rainbows but we often forget that there is another side to wealth. The secondary plot brings the reality of what power and control turns a person into and what they will do to keep it.

First of all the story teller is excellent in sounding like the various characters, male and female, and the inflections of the different nationalities.
The story itself gets you involved in the two main characters in that you can identify with their hopes, dreams, and failures. I became frustrated with Alex at first but coming from a very sheltered, religious background I realized I would have reacted as she did.
The only thing I can complain about is I didn’t want it to end.

I feel this story would have been better served starting at the beginning of this hotel being built and following through the early stories. I patiently listened to the story and did engage with the characters, mostly the Canadian policeman but going back and forth made the book choppy. The ending was no ending at all. I knew there were subsequent books that carried this story on but the way this one ended wasn’t even a cliffhanger and it didn’t finish anything at all. It was a void so I will not be buying the other two books because I am getting the feeling this story could have been written in two books and not three.

First: I love Abby Craden’s reading of this book and will look for other books she narrates.
Second: the story was adult and engaging enough that it kept me wanting and yet hating the book to end. The characters were real, they were both strong women, and the HEA came naturally with time and appropriately. I worked in Medicine and have known people like Dr. Hathaway and have seen them both brilliant at book learning and dense when it comes to life.
I’m short on description so I will end this with this is truly a 5 star read.

This is a tale of two women who come from disparate backgrounds and length of time as reporters. One is older, lost a plum position in the D.C. Political News Bureau, and is highly caustic. The other woman is young, from Iowa, and still struggling to become recognized. At the beginning of this story they are snippy with each other. They separately attend a New Business opening party. They both notice some unusual guests and the real story begins.
This book was engaging, somewhat suspenseful, and and entertaining. It’s definitely a good read.

This was an enjoyable storyline in spite of there not being a war with fighting and things blowing up. The author was good at developing the main characters' mannerisms such as the botanists peculiarity and virtue as well as the assistants bearing and temperament. The love story was interesting because of the distinct differences in the two women's general attitude towards romance. The only drawback I found is I wasn't ready for the story to end. I felt that there could have been more presented after they connected.
As for the narration it was spot on across various characters. In fact I think the assistants voice was so sexy I would have wanted to meet her.

This is my second read by this author and I will be going through all her books and so far I think they are fantastic. I am a person who cares less about the sex and more on the storyline. While reading this book I began to feel as if Jae had had some part in this field because of how she is able to show these characters’ feelings and all the details of how an actor and publicist live.
Great love story as well. Slow burn but when it catches fire we are talking blue flame.

What did you love best about The Other Side of History: Daily Life in the Ancient World?

Even though it is a history lesson, with hints of Social Anthropology, it is great for those of us who are nerds and love this type of book.
For anyone this makes ancient history more palatable and a great deal more enjoyable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

N/A

Which scene was your favorite?

Egyptian life was very interesting.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely not. This is not that type of book but I certainly wanted to finish the epochs.

Good first Anne Hillerman attempt

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like, and really miss, Tony Hillerman's books this will help fill that void though I figured out who did it very early in the story. I think with more practice she will get the hang of mystery books and I have to add that her understanding of Navajo people is right on so I have to give her a high score on that. The narrator really helped in with keeping my interest in this book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character is Bernie Chee. She is a smart woman while retaining her Navajoness. I would like to see more Bernie in future books with just a little Jim and Joe.

Which character – as performed by Christina Delaine – was your favorite?

The Navajo mother who I think was named Mrs Begay?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The above non-named mother made me smile. She reminded me of all very strong mothers.

Any additional comments?

I hope Anne continues to follow in her father's footsteps, but, with the caveat that she use more of her own insights into these characters. Mr. Hillerman cannot be replicated and he was able to write from a male perspective, Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn, and now it is time for the Navajo female's perspective. Women see things differently than men and work their way to a conclusion differently which I think Bernie did quite well.
