I’ve been a huge fan from the beginning. There were a couple books early on that felt stale but after continuing through the story it all had a point as far as the world building went.

As for this book, it has to be listed as one of the cliffhanger type. Then again most books in a series will do that to pull you in for the next in the series but I digress.

The story itself is full of path points, more universe building, some minor relationship growths / separations and plenty of combat. Macleod Andrews is phenomenal as always and Noret Flood does not disappoint.

Now I’m anxiously awaiting the next book (even though this one just came out as of writing this review) and will probably enjoy a second listen between now and the next release.

I feel bad for the narrators. I’ve listened to other audiobooks they have done and they were fantastic but I could not stomach even finishing the series. Feel free to disregard my review from here on if a completed listen overview is the type of review you are looking for.

The story itself has such amazing potential until you realize it sounds like a fourteen year old wrote it. I can tell the narrators both were trying their best to make the characters come alive but with the dialogue they are given to work with it falls way flat. I can’t give the performers a bad rating, you can’t make gold out of dung.

Maybe I am spoiled by the great authors before coming across this book but I have never had to put a series away before completion before and it saddens me greatly.

Lackluster character development, very forgettable side characters (especially after they have been used for bedroom scenes and then forgotten). The MC is like a White Knight meets Giga Chad and the MC is the offspring of the two. The Griffin’s personalities are so ridiculous I can’t take them seriously yet they are supposed to have the mental capacity of humans. I don’t even know at this point.

TLDR

Save yourself a credit and a lot of frustration and look for a different title.

I am driven to madness! Even though this was just released recently, the story and all the elements that comprise it just kept sucking me in deeper and deeper. I can’t wait for the next in the series, I’m so excited to see what happens to Wrench next. Stephanie Savanah has outdone herself once again. I will never tire of her amazing talent for voice acting / narrating. The same goes for the brilliance of Randi Darren and the years of fantasy stories I have had the privilege to enjoy. Thank you both for another great listen! I SO look forward to the next!

To start off Stephanie is incredible! I never get tired of hearing her voice and narrations for each character. She is lovely and does an outstanding performance for all the audiobooks I’ve heard her in.

As for Randi (William D Arand), he has outdone himself on this one. The aspect of Hume (humans) being kept as pets to an alien race of Tongsta (blob like beings 5-15 times larger than humans) is such a huge and intoxicating difference from the worlds that are typical for the series that Arand has written in the past that I was entirely enthralled from beginning to end. The environment the Hume and Tongsta exist in would be very similar to a hamster in an enclosed habitat with extra tubes and toys for exploration, exercise and enjoyment. Add in that Tongsta think humes are simple and more akin to wild animals makes for an interesting dilemma.

I don’t want to ruin it for anyone reading this that is on the fence about listening to this one so I’ll leave it at this,
A+ story that will keep you glued to your headphones for the full duration. I’ve already purchased the second book in the series and I’m diving in as soon as I press submit for this review!

Thank you Stephanie and Randi for a fantastic story and great entertainment!
