Stiff narration
Revisado: 08-27-24
Story was good, but plot didn’t have a strong trajectory. Narrator was stilted and failed to convey the humorous lines effectively.

Brutal and tragic
Revisado: 10-23-17
Historical fiction about frontier life. Gruesome details. Nobody wins. Hopeless. Not my cup of tea.

Historia
Considered by many critics to be the very best Zane Grey Western, The U. P. Trail narrates the story of William Neale, a young engineer working for the Union Pacific railway. He must contend with Indians, bandits, badlands, and bad weather to get the train to the destination. And in the midst of all this, the love of his life is kidnapped! The railroads were expanding to link the nation, with the celebrated golden spike marking the spot in Utah where the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific would meet.

Great story--stiff reading
Revisado: 08-26-17
Story is a classic and the characters are well developed, but the plot is unbelievable in the number of times one woman could be captured and rescued. Reading recalls the radio shows of old in its tone, but is so halting and stiff that it distracts from the narrative.

Historia
Struggling to cope with urban life - and life in general - Frankie, a 20-something artist, retreats to her family's rural house on "turbine hill", vacant since her grandmother's death three years earlier. It is in this space, surrounded by countryside and wild creatures, that she can finally grapple with the chain of events that led her here - her shaky mental health, her difficult time in art school - and maybe, just maybe, regain her footing in art and life.
