Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Sometimes Good, Mostly Cringeworthy
Revisado: 02-12-19
I had a hard time getting past the memory-as-a-superpower plot device. It was just too convenient to give the main character a genius-level intelligence and a perfect memory with DVR controls. And don't get me started on the ants.
If you like stories with more plot holes than Swiss cheese this is the book for you.

Historia
This is a story from the Fall of the House of Usher collection. The horrors of the Spanish Inquisition, with its dungeon of death, and the overhanging gloom on the House of Usher demonstrate unforgettably the unique imagination of Edgar Allan Poe. Unerringly, he touches upon some of our greatest nightmares: Premature burial, ghostly transformation, words from beyond the grave. Written in the 1840s, they have retained their power to shock and frighten even now.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

So bad, it's not good.
Revisado: 02-07-17
As a child of the 80s, a gamer and music fan, I thought I'd like this book much more than I did. Wil Wheaton does a fine job narrating, but the overall story is absolutely cringeworthy. Some reviewers have called it "Twilight for nerds", but I suspect even LARPing basement-dwellers would be put off by some of the dialogue, and extremely shallow character development. The protagonist is very unlikable, the premise seems to be borrowed from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, with a heavy overdose of 80s nostalgia, and pathetic teen angst.
I don't know why anyone would think this book could be made into a feature film, much less one directed by Steven Spielberg. That screenwriter better have a miracle up their sleeve to turn this drivel into something watchable.
