I'm one of those adults who has a deep love for well-written young adult fantasy, stories that are adventure, family and imagination. This book hit all my feels in a big way. The two main characters are delightful and imperfect. Twins, they have an abiding love for each other, even while having realistic issues with each other. When they are introduced to the Wild woods and the creatures there, they learn to work together to help dragons and unicorns and to try to break the long time family curse of the phoenix. i was spellbound throughout, wishing I could see these creatures and share memories with the phoenix! i only hope there will be a sequel someday, as though the ending was lovely, it left me wanting more and to have Zach and Lou come back and have more adventures.

When I first discovered the Gateway Chronicles by K. B. Hoyle, I read the first one, gobbling down like I was starving for a good story. And maybe I was, because I was swept away and hooked for life. I’ve read this series repeatedly and it never grows old or becomes stale. Now with it in audio, with Dollcie Webb’s magical and marvelous narration, I feel I’m discovering the books all over again. And the Oracle is a perfect follow up to The Six. Each voice she has created for the characters seems to fit the person I have come to know them to be and brings them even more to life for me.

In this book, the six teens have returned to Cedar Cove and on to Alitheia through the magical gateway. Alitheia is a happier land, though still under the rule of the shadow. But teens are still teens, and when Tellius tells Darcy about the mysterious Oracle, a possible way to get an answer to the most burning question for them both, it sends some of the group off on a dangerous quest and culminates in a heartbreaking sacrifice.

As with each book in the series, I couldn’t put it down, had to read constantly, even though I knew where the story was going. I just could not get enough of the adventure, of the characters, of Cedar Cove and Alitheia, of this story that makes me wish so hard I could find my own Gateway and join them all in Alitheia.

Between the author’s engrossing tale, the narrator’s perfect interpretation, the music that adds just the right touch, I only wished it could go on and on. This series gets to my heart and soul. I highly recommend it for kids of any age and those adults who always longed to go on a magical adventure and never grew out of wishing they could!

I originally read this entire series on kindle in 2012. Even then, I longed to hear the story and the characters come to life in audio. What a talented narrator could do with these marvelous stories, I could only imagine. I was most definitely not disappointed. The narrator gave each character its own distinctive voice, to the point that even without dialog tags, I always knew who was speaking. Her voice for Yahot Veli, was exactly what I had imagined it would be, for instance. This series is pure delight. Young adult fantasy, with a group of kids, everyone of any age, can relate to. I related to darcy in big ways. at her age, I too was shy, awkward and insecure. And then to enter a land of magic, to be part of a long-awaited mission to save the land, with fascinating characters and struggles along the way. It's everything that is wonderful and perfect in a book, with all the range of emotion, joy, sorrow, fear, hope, defeat, triumph. I love these books as much as I love Harry Potter. They have been compared to Narnia by some, but for me, they are far superior, because as an older adult, these books draw me in, from the first line. I've reread them multiple times and always get something new and love them as much each time. Thanks to K B Hoyle for writing these true gems, and to Dollcie webb for her beautiful job of bringing them to life.

Any additional comments?

I found this book far more fascinating than the original trilogy. Christian is a complex character and watching him begin his journey into healing was wonderful. This book had a depth that surprised me, as we reach into Christian's soul. His nightmares of his abused past moved me, sometimes bringing tears to my eyes. Those moments were far more compelling than Ana's constant thoughts about her subconscious and inner goddess. I was disappointed when I got to the end of the book and I only hope we will get more soon, so we can complete the journey with Grey. I want to say a few words about the narrator. He was fabulous. His low-key, sort of under-stated way made the book come alive and brought more depth and sorrow to Christian than I expected. I would definitely read other books with him narrating, and I hope he continues the Grey series.
