Historia
Exclusively from Audible. 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' So begins Charles Dickens' most famous historical drama: a gripping tale of war, social injustice and the choice between darkness and light. After being unjustly imprisoned for 18 years, French doctor Manette is released from the Bastille jail in Paris and embarks upon a journey to London in the hope of finding the daughter he never met.

Incredible
Revisado: 03-16-25
My introduction to Charles Dickens. Simon Callow read this with so much emotion and Dickens’ dialogue between characters is much more meaningful than a cursory summary of the plot. I will visit this story again.

Historia
When Hollywood auctioneer Emsley Wilson finds her famous grandmother's diary while cleaning out her New York brownstone, the pages are full of surprises. The first surprise is, the diary isn't her grandmother's. It belongs to Johanna Bonger, Vincent van Gogh's sister-in-law.

Historia
A classic since its first publication in 1863, The Water-Babies is the story of a little chimney sweep named Tom and his magical adventures beneath the waves. The ill-treated Tom flees his dangerous toil and his cruel master, Grimes. When he jumps into a cool stream to clean the soot off himself, he becomes a water-baby, cleaner and happier than he has ever been, in a hidden fairy world. There, Tom meets haughty dragonflies, makes friends with a slow-witted lobster, and dodges hungry otters.

Wonderful classic for children and adults

Absolutely, beautiful story and superbly narrated. Simon Vance is one of my favorite narrators. If you are a fan of George MacDonald or CS Lewis, you will find yourself at home listening to The Water Babies.

Historia
When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie–a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance–mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, and Sadie cannot rest without it. Lara, on the other hand, has a number of ongoing distractions. Her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, her start-up company is floundering, and she’s just been dumped by the “perfect” man.

So much fun!
Revisado: 04-03-24
This was another great book from Sophie Kinsella but on another level, not just romantic comedy; a bit of mystery, too. Loved it!

Historia
Lina is just like any other 15-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys - until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they've known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia.

Worth it
Revisado: 10-01-23
I don’t quite have words for a review. This book was at the same time hard to listen to but incredibly compelling. It is an important story. It will cause you to hold your loved ones closer and be thankful for your ties. It brings awareness to a time in history but also a caution for the present and future. The narrators were truly great and Lisa Wingate crafted a masterpiece. Though I don’t know when I’ll visit it again due to its weight, I’m better for having listened to this book.
