More than simply entertaining
Revisado: 11-15-24
Come for the story but stick around for the tale, this is literature. A novel, rewarding and compelling. I worry the next cannot be this good but I plan to find out.

Historia
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Time capsule to when justice made sense
Revisado: 11-04-24
I like how the ethics of justice intermingle with the reality of the judicial system. It’s also kind of nostalgia for a time when not everybody was automatically cynical….

Historia
The dentist was found with a blackened hole below his right temple. A pistol lay on the floor near his out flung right hand. Later, one of his patients was found dead from a lethal dose of local anaesthetic. A clear case of murder and suicide. But why would a dentist commit a crime in the middle of a busy day of appointments? A shoe buckle holds the key to the mystery. Now - in the words of the rhyme - can Poirot pick up the sticks and lay them straight?

Delightful
Revisado: 04-09-24
Love it, good mystery, great puzzle. Second time listening with my daughter after a space of four-five years and had forgotten the resolution and I still couldn’t solve it, the second time around! Goodness, if I only had an egg shaped head … but we came close on a few points and it was exciting to ponder.

Best book I’ve read in a long time
Revisado: 04-06-24
Scary, compelling, and even masterful, this is an excellent novel that takes many unpredictable turns while hitting enough recognizable genre tropes of mystery, horror, even buddy stories and road trip narratives that it’s plethora of unique contributions are inviting and comfortable. Also, great reader and great characters. Plot, character development, genre busting and genre servicing — what’s not to love?

Historia
How far will he go to save his daughter? How far will he go to get revenge? It's 2053 and runaway climate change has brought civilization to the brink of collapse. Billions are threatened with starvation and mankind is slowly moving north in a world stricken by war, drought and superstorms - easy prey for the pandemics that sweep across the globe. Easy prey, too, for the violent gangs and people-smugglers who thrive in the crumbling world where 'King Death' reigns supreme.

Existential Thriller
Revisado: 03-29-24
Probably not for every reader, this genre-defying novel might be the most interesting and challenging book I have read in many years. At times a pure action tale, this dystopian near future sci fi story is mainly a study of how to be ethical in dark times.

This book is fun and thought provoking
Revisado: 09-09-22
And it is well read. I really don’t get all the critics. Is this some top shelf masterpiece? No. If you want the masterpiece, read her book about poker. But this book is still very good, five stars, excellent. Maybe she relies too much on retelling familiar stories but I had never heard any of them and I thought they were all grippingly recounted and sufficiently analyzed. I think maybe folks should appreciate that good writers who can masterfully blend a humanistic and philosophical impulse with sincere scientific integrity are rare these days.
