Historia
Raised outside of Boston, Ivy’s immigrant grandmother relies on Ivy’s mild appearance for cover as she teaches her granddaughter how to pilfer items from yard sales and second-hand shops. Thieving allows Ivy to accumulate the trappings of a suburban teen - and, most importantly, to attract the attention of Gideon Speyer, the golden boy of a wealthy political family. But when Ivy’s mother discovers her trespasses, punishment is swift and Ivy is sent to China, and her dream instantly evaporates.

Interesting and Intriguing
Revisado: 01-15-22
I really enjoyed this book a lot, it was interesting, something new, and really well written. You can tell from the way the book was written that Jami is a really smart woman and I admire her business sense and motivation.

Historia
We are in a small room with the vampire, face to face, as he speaks--as he pours out the hypnotic, shocking, moving, and erotically charged confessions of his first two hundred years as one of the living dead. . . He speaks quietly, plainly, even gently . . . carrying us back to the night when he departed human existence as heir--young, romantic, cultivated--to a great Louisiana plantation, and was inducted by the radiant and sinister Lestat into the other, the "endless," life....

Truly a Classic- On Another Level of Thinking
Revisado: 10-17-21
Absolutely a Classic in its writing, content, and timelessness. Loved that it had such a strong setting in New Orleans as it’s one of my most favorite places ever.
The thought provoking ideas and content about life and religion were so advanced in conception, Anne’s mind must’ve been so incredibly wise beyond this realm.
My only disappointment was I wished there wasn’t a strong romance plot within the plot, there was “love” and many versions of love within the novel but not in the way I was hoping for, but clearly Anne Rice didn’t want to write it as a cliche so I completely respect that.

Please write one more Holly <3
Revisado: 06-30-21
I had just finished the audible version of Down the Rabbit Hole- which I enjoyed immensely and went to read the reviews for this book. A lot of the reviews seemed to say that it was disappointing after Holly’s first book and that Holly “seemed to run out of things to say”. I went a couple of weeks questioning whether this one would be worth it and finally decided to make the purchase and I’m super glad I did! I don’t think she had run out of things to say at all, I’m actually convinced she still has so many crazy stories from her years in the mansion and in Vegas that I bet she has another book in her! Write us one more book please Holly!

Great Read but Yes Lack of Accountability
Revisado: 06-13-21
I loved listening to this book on audio and it was interesting enough I finished it within a week. There were a lot of juicy tidbits I never knew anything about. Holly certainly sounds intelligent and motivated, but the other reviews are accurate that she never admitted to having any responsibility in any of her many feuds or issues with others. Chapter after chapter she defends her side of the story without ever just simply saying “yeah it was me that stirred the pot”. You just start to roll your eyes at some point like yeah ok Holly I’m sure that’s exactly how it happened lol.
That being said I am a fan of Holly and will be reading the Vegas Diaries next because I really did enjoy this book.

Amazingly Researched and Amazingly Written
Revisado: 05-12-21
I can’t even begin to imagine how much research, knowledge, and fact checking goes into each of Lisa See’s novels. The history she adds into each book is incredible, and this has to be by far her most intricate story.
I have been reading Lisa’s books since I was 13, I’ve read almost every one of her books. Unlike most people who have a favorite of “Snow Flower and the Secret Gan— my favorite book(s) of hers are “Shanghai Girls” and the sequel “Dreams of Joy”, but I think this one might be the best yet.
I personally have a great interest in tea so I genuinely enjoyed all the facts pertaining to tea, and the details and connectedness of the characters and storyline were wonderful. Thank you Lisa for your dedication to your craft, you are my favorite author by far.

Thought provoking art
Revisado: 02-12-21
It’s easy to tell after a few chapters how many years went into writing this novel, I loved that the younger and older Vanessa felt distinctly different from each other due to that reason. I think that any woman reading this will feel some type of connection to protagonist Vanessa through her emotions or younger/teenage self.
There are so many references to other books/poems/writings/pop culture that may interest you along the way. At the end of the audible version there are 2 different podcasts that interview the author, worth the extra time at the end- this accounts for the last full hour of your audible book time frame.

Historia
In Lindsay Hunter’s achingly funny, fiercely honest second novel, Eat Only When You’re Hungry, we meet Greg—an overweight fifty-eight-year-old and the father of Greg Junior, GJ, who has been missing for three weeks. GJ’s been an addict his whole adult life, disappearing for days at a time, but for some reason this absence feels different, and Greg has convinced himself that he’s the only one who can find his son. So he rents an RV and drives from his home in West Virginia to the outskirts of Orlando, Florida, the last place GJ was seen.

Reads like a plot for an independent movie
Revisado: 01-19-21
I enjoy this style of writing, specific and honest. It’s one of those “raw” storylines that makes you think about things a little bit deeper. All of the characters seemed like real humans, not just characters.
My biggest critique would be that there were possibly too many similes and metaphors, every single thing doesn’t need to be compared to something else.

Historia
Tom Perrotta's thirtysomething parents of young children are a varied and surprising bunch. There's Todd, the handsome stay-at-home dad dubbed "The Prom King" by the moms of the playground; Sarah, a lapsed feminist with a bisexual past, who seems to have stumbled into a traditional marriage; Richard, Sarah's husband, who has found himself more and more involved with a fantasy life on the Internet than with the flesh and blood in his own house; and Mary Ann, who thinks she has it all figured out.

Liked it as a movie almost 15 years ago, it’s close as a book
Revisado: 02-28-20
Contrary to what other people may have written I think the book is very similar to the movie, yes it’s in a different order and things of course are expanded upon in the book, ok and the ending is a little different (but only slightly, not completely). But it has a lot of word for word narration that matches up in the movie, and it’s probably my favorite book. Just honest and raw, all the characters seem so real, they have flaws like real people. There’s something about it I just loved so much.
