Interesting and eye opening

This was interesting and eye opening. I tried to dismiss any preconceived notions I had about people on government assistance. It’s inspiring that the author finally got out of the cycle. I didn’t care for the jumping around-that made things a bit confusing. There is quite a bit of foul language and I would have liked more details after moving on and going to school. I’m not sure if the author changed any names or locations but it seems like those she worked for would be easily identifiable which seems unethical (as did trying on her clients clothing).

Made me feel my age

I’ve enjoyed reading/listening to many books where the main character is in high school, but this book made me feel too old for it. I found the main character to be quite dramatic about her crush and her use of “literally” grated on me a few times. I did appreciate that she stood up for mistreatment and helped to fix some wrongs that she found. The parents were over the top and I was quite surprised that they’d push their teens into a better mistletoe kiss (especially given their reaction to something else later in the story). 2.5 stars

Enjoyable listen

I recently read this book and was happy for the chance to be able to listen to it as well. I think the narrator did an excellent job and didn’t detract at all as some do. I really felt for Grace. She was a very good person but overlooked by most people because her twin took the spotlight and overshadowed her. Her journey out of the shadows made for an entertaining read. The clean romance was well done. I would definitely read/listen to more from this author.

I enjoyed this story. I’m not sure if it was the reader or how it was written, but it had a slow pace. I appreciated that the relationship that formed came about at a realistic pace. A few times I was struck with the use of words that felt a little off for the time period, but maybe they were common and just haven’t been used in other books I’ve read in this era.

This was an enjoyable book to listen to. The main character’s feelings changed a bit abruptly a few times throughout the story, but given the circumstances, it wasn’t too detracting. I was happy that the main goal was accomplished.

I didn’t love the reader’s voice/performance, but it didn’t detract enough to have me stop listening. I read this book awhile ago and enjoyed the story. Joey is a clumsy and always getting into trouble, but she has good intentions and does solve mysteries even though her methods aren’t the best.

This was a sweet and clean romance. I believe there was one mild swear word at the end. I liked the characters and would read/listen to more from this author.

The story started out pretty superficial with immature characters, but near the end something is revealed and all that changed. It helped me see depth to the main character and the wrongs that had occurred were righted. It’s a clean read with a couple of mild swear words.

The main character was tough to like initially-she was selfish and immature. But she grew a lot over the course of the story and learned some good lessons. This is a clean listen, I believe it had one minor swearword.
