Historia
By the middle of the 21st century, humanity has managed to overcome a series of catastrophic events and maintain some sense of stability. Space exploration has begun again. Science has led the way. But then one day, the sun goes out. Solar panels are useless, and the world begins to freeze. Earth begins to fall out of its orbit. The end is nigh. Someone has sent us a sign.

Voice acting has a single major flaw
Revisado: 12-26-23
I would love to at least give the narrator five stars, but her awful US Southern accent is frankly unforgivable. Some British voice actors seem to care enough to learn how to deliver consistent and believable US regional accents. But this is not one of them. ls that character from Texas, South Carolina, West Virginia, NOLA? Sussex? (Why not? It is southern, after all.)
The story itself offers insufficient meat to hang on its bones. Too many meetings, not enough oomph. I kept expecting something to happen, but it just ended with no real denouement. Meh

Good narration, but some very puzzling mispronounciations: Cadíz (Cádiz), CórToba (Córdoba), Bourpón (Bourbon), guartia (guardia)?

Historia
Jace Hughes is a Renegade. That means taking almost any job that comes his way, no matter the situation. So long as he can keep his ship floating, he's free to live the life he wants. But that all changes when he meets Abigail Pryar, a nun looking for safe passage out of the system. Too bad there's something off about the cargo she's carrying. Jace knows he shouldn't ask too many questions, but when strange sounds start coming from inside the large, metal box, he can't help but check it out. Big mistake. To make matters worse, he's being pursued by unknown ships - who want that cargo.

puerile but not for juveniles
Revisado: 05-15-23
Poor writing and story conception. Constant gratuitous use of profanity and filler dialog which detracts from what little story line there is. Mediocre narration. I wanted something non-challenging to semi-listen to while engaged in other tasks, but this just grated on my nerves like a thirteen-year old boy that cannot shut up. I would rather listen to nothing g than listen to this.
I can see why it was free.

Good Story, Lousy Voice Acting
Revisado: 11-03-21
I would rather read this book. about two-thirds of the way through the audiobook, I finally had to stop listening because of the inept voice acting. it was alternately annoying and insulting. The reader needs to stick to doing American male voices. His women's voices are overwraught and the Chinese voices are Charlie Chan-style caricatures - I am frankly astounded that the product was released this way in this day and age. The fact that the voices are unintentionally bad in no way makes them easier to listen to. It is a shame when an otherwise enjoyable story is ruined this way through no fault of the author. Sorry, Roman! I gave it a go, as promised. Maybe if I get a chance, I'll read it on my Kindle instead.

Historia
Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

Accents matter!
Revisado: 02-27-21
I'm sure this voice actor has talents, and he probably does well at British accents, but his American accents are so bad that they have to be heard to be believed. I frankly had a hard time listening to it after a while. Any American who tried voicing a British novel with such ineptitude would surely be replaced by someone who knows what they are doing. One would think that all he studied for this gig was 'Gone With The Wind.' Nobody speaks that way, least of all African Americans. This voice artist's rendering of a non-existent aristocratic "Southern" accent reminds me of an uninformed American who is doing a bad imitation of a Geordie accent. The fact that almost no Americans have the slightest idea what that is, is analogous to this actor's unfamiliarity with Southern U.S. and New England accents.
There is no RP in American Southern English nor any analog of such. His sophomoric attempts at one are at once cartoonish and insulting. It would have been far better - if he is going to be too lazy or cheap to hire a voice coach - to simply use American broadcast English, which is actually quite commonly used throughout the South.
I will listen to this voice actor again only if he is reading a strictly British novel, or at least one with no American characters.
