Interesting
Revisado: 09-15-24
Interesting world and concepts. I throughly enjoyed the world building in this book. However the love fell flat for me. I think the characters were too one dimensional, which made me rate it a 4 star instead of 5.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 09-14-24
A solid enjoyable noir style mystery with elements of science fiction, psychological thriller and monster horror.
The writing and narration was well done. I enjoyed the psychological aspect of the story, as it made me keep guessing what was going on. Though the ending was very good, I did guess it well in advance. Still a great conclusion and enjoyable.

Twisty
Revisado: 09-13-24
I hope, like me, you don’t read any of the reviews until after you’ve finished the book. I think the impact of the book wouldn’t have been as great if I would have known going into it that there were going to be a lot of twists. And twist after twist there was!
I was originally going to rate this a 4 or 4.5 star because the instant love and smooth bad boy pickup lines so many books have were present in this book. However the twists blew my mind!!! and the instant love trope is forgivable for reasons you’ll know after reading it.
I think the ending was fabulous, as it still leaves the reader with questions, and you have to decide for yourself what is real. Amazing. 😄

Enjoyable
Revisado: 09-11-24
I really enjoyed the alternate histories in this book. It was a thought provoking book with a likable main character and easy to read. I throughly enjoyed reading about the diverging worlds, and the struggles life throws at a person. I thought the author did a really good job of portraying one core personality, with the main character Patty, and following her through two different realities with different ups and downs/struggles and achievements. Bonus points for the LGBTQ aspects of this book.
I waived back and forth between rating this book a 5 star or 4.5. I decided with 4.5 however because, though the story/stories of Patty’s lives were enjoyable and the book overall was thought provoking, I never got the spark of “feeling.” Essentially, I felt like the book didn’t draw me in emotionally. Yes there were happy and sad moments in Patty’s lives, but as the reader I never felt like I was in the trenches with her. Because of this I just couldn’t add that extra 1/2 star.

The book itself was pretty good. The recording is messed up however. Chapter 4 is from a different book. And chapter 36 & 37 are switched.

Too many jokes
Revisado: 11-24-23
Interesting premise but the jokes are too much. The jokes aren’t funny and it just keeps going on and on… and on. Gets very tiring very quickly.

Very dark, but interesting.
Revisado: 10-29-20
This book was very interesting, but also extremely disturbing. I believe the book summary should have came with a trigger warning. I was very surprised by how dark it got, and then it got even darker. There were points when I wasn’t sure if I could finish due to scenes depicting rape and molestation of a child. That being said, the darkness is realistic to those who suffer from multiple personalities or other similar disorders relating to extreme trauma.
The psychological speculation between multiple personality disorder and that of AI was very interesting, and I enjoyed the growth the main character goes through with embracing his multiple personalities and then the attempt to integrate with them by facing his trauma. Overall, the story itself kept me interested till the very end.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Armentrout goes to the next level
Revisado: 09-29-20
I've loved Jennifer L. Armentrout books since I read the Lux series when it came out. However, I've always thought the Lux series was her best work. I've read a large portion of the books she's written, but not everything because I felt like she got into a pattern of writing the same old story over and over again. That is until I read this book. The entire time I was reading it I was mentally applauding Armentrout's advanced world building and phenomenal story telling skills. This book had complexities, twists and turns, and likable characters. I absolutely LOVE that she's created an entirely different world. All the books I've read from her is set in our world with or without supernatural elements to it. I seriously can't be more proud of her for developing this unique world and story. I feel like I've witnessed the next level of one of my favorite authors, igniting my love for their writing again! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Historia
My childhood was stolen by a monster. I've forgotten what love feels like. What happiness feels like. What hope feels like. I am numb. Him: He's possibly as damaged as I am. Maybe even more. Scarred just as much on the inside as the outside. Just like me. He doesn't speak. He doesn't smile. He hides in the woods like an animal. I should be scared of him, but I'm not. He's the only one that has ever made me feel. And I want to make him feel, too. Everything....

Pretty good
Revisado: 09-21-20
I liked the first book in this series much more. I felt this one rushed to the ending, and was a bit unbelievable as far as the main female’s trauma. I couldn’t get past the idea of her never being kissed and still being a virgin after being held captive for 11 years by a man who obviously used her sexually. Also, she was way too quick to jump into bed with the main male without any flashbacks or working her way up to being touched sexually.
Other than this, the story in general was good. It was well written. I liked both characters, and and I appreciated the depth and the well developed backstory of the both of them.
