Richard Ostler is amazing! I am a frequent consumer of his podcast and have found him to be a generous host and good listener. One critique of this particular format (not of the content itself) is that the narrator made it difficult to attribute the quotes in the book, which was confusing and sometimes even jarring. Other than that, it was a good listen!

It says a lot about a book when it makes you think about yourself and your own perspective. I wish this could be required reading for every white person in the United States.

This is an enormously important work. I am just beginning my foray into racial justice advocacy, and am glad this is the first book I chose. I am guilty of complicity when jt comes to racial equality. Better late than never, I hope, to right that wrong. Don’t expect this book to take up the traditional arguments of civil rights progress. I feel like I have gotten a primary education on mass incarceration and color blindness and am inspired to seek out ways to make changes to this system that is all too effective in bringing about the social control of minorities.
