Connelly's leftist politics on full display

Remember the old joke, "your epidermis is showing?" Well, Mr. Connelly, your leftist woke politics are showing. I find the timing of the release of this novel distasteful, and can't help but think that you purposely did it to add division and strife to an election season already fraught with volatility. Shame on you. I will not return the book because doing so will delete this review, but this is the last dime you'll get from me. FYI the events you wrapped your novel around are still under investigation. Instead of merely parroting the reporting of others, a true journalist would research it for himself. But I guess you're not that anymore. You are truly just a writer of fiction. I'm gonna miss you, Harry. Be well.

So happy to hear Aiden's story

After reading about Dylan, Charlotte, Brendan and Andrew Caine it was great to finally hear Aiden's story. I almost skipped it, though. The narration is absolutely horrible. But if, like me, you really must know the whole family's story, then listen to it at 85% speed. Yes, it prolongs the pain but it does make it moderately tolerable. Other than that, it was a good Rayanne Thayne book. I did miss some of the giving and helping spirit of some of her other books, but I have a feeling that this series is just beginning.

Mystery, murder, mayhem, strong but not obnoxiously so women, strong supportive manly men, realistic romance, contemporary themes, this book has it all. But then, that's Nora Roberts' stregnth--writing a compelling book that hooks you and holds you til the end. Add January Lavoy's narration and you have a perfect book. I only dinged it one percent, not even a whole star, because our two FBI agents would realistically have had more bureau support.

I missed Star Wars. It was nice to hear a story from a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

...so I'll power through it, but it's a struggle. The book itself is mostly good (the military part is weak), but the narration was awful, very mechanical, and the long spaces after each comma and period break up the flow of the story. The new A.I. narration on video games is more human. Changing the playback speed to 1.05 helped a lot, but it also gives me less value for my book dollars measured in minutes. I've looked ahead and the same performer narrates the next book. Maybe I'll let Siri read to me instead.

Such a great setup for a new book series by a favorite author. I'm looking forward to seeing the characters develop, find themselves and grow. I think I especially love that Tess is a strong, decisive, career woman who wants family. I love that she knows that she doesn't have to sacrifice one for the others, but instead works to fulfill her dreams on all fronts. Love the tie-in to previous Eternity Springs and Redemption stories. One note, though...the three brothers Boone, Jackson and Tucker are McBrides, not Callahans. The narrator was ok.

It's a good story, a great sequel in the Eternity Springs saga. But the narration is killing me. Her southern accent isn't horrible, her narration and main voice are good, but her alternate voices, especially the men, definitely need work.

Maybe it bothers me more because I've been binge reading the Blossom Street series, but in Ch 18 and 21 of A Turn In The Road, the book that introduces Max and Rooster, Max's "family" business is left in the hands of his brother Luke, who was 10 years older, while Rooster is Luke's best friend and the boys' neighbor growing up, and Rooster handles the business' advertising. By Blossom Street Brides, Luke is never mentioned and Rooster was the business caretaker back then and is his partner now. Seems like relocating the family business would require some input from Luke. If Luke sold out to Rooster, you would think there would be a mention of it since not much time has passed between books. I know it's a small detail, but it kept bothering me through the whole book, and it interfered with my listening experience.

The absence of Luke creates a timeline problem. Rooster is Luke's age, 10 years older than Max. I think it is said that Rooster is 38, which makes Max 28, and way too young for Bethanne, whose youngest child is 23. I remember Bethanne being 36 at some point. Age differences are ok, but continuity is important.

I was also bothered by the predictability of this book. The only thing I could not predict was HOW Grant would fall. I was also annoyed by the sing-song intonation given to Lauren, which almost made her seem like a brainless wallflower, instead of being the strong female character Ms. Macomber likes to portray.

...like she's some kind of vegetable? I found the narration lacking in this one. The excited utterances were way too annoying, she had trouble keeping her characters straight, and some blended or traded voices, and there was a real disconnect between the words and the intonation. An example would be the sentence, "'I'm so angry with you," Margot said with barely concealed rage.'" but the "I'm so angry" part gets read with a happy voice. As for the story, it was good, in keeping with the series, and thankfully had many references to favorite characters, including Ah-leeks, and call backs from previous books.

I did really enjoy the story. I appreciate wholesome murder and mayhem, where the hero is able to maintain healthy relationships while fighting interesting crimes, I appreciate the art of story telling and the art in story telling. I loved the characters and their evolution and resolution. What I didn't love was the narration. I'm not sure where the narrator is from, but he definitely does not understand the difference between Midwestern, Southeastern, and Southern American accents and the geographical location of Indiana. At times the characters were from Georgia, at times from Louisiana, though the narration was mostly Midwestern with some Hispanic mixed in. And he has trouble generating different voices.
