Historia
At 60 years of age, Marcel wonders about the death of his best friend on Easter when they were both twelve years old. He consults a psychologist about his uncertain memories. Two distinct timelines emerge--one which turned life in a better direction, and the other which resulted in trauma and emotional pain. Could both be true?

From the Author
Revisado: 04-24-25
As the author of Uneven Recollections of an Easter Past, I vowed to write each day until this story was finished. Like Paul who spoke the gospel to the non-Israelites, I wanted to reach people who had suffered in their youth, and because of what they endured, needed a unique story to overcome their past. The Church needs all of us. As stated in 1st Corinthians 12:21, “The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you!’ And the head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you!’ On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts which we think are less honorable we treat with special honor.” I hope you can identify with Marcel in his life-long struggle or at least regard people like him with more empathy. This story reaches deep, and I appreciate Bill Lewis for his candid narration in this search for ultimate truth.

Well Researched and Dramatic
Revisado: 04-08-25
The story of Cicero’s early career was impeccably true to history, overlaid with intense political drama. He was ever the lawyer, a man of the people, but full of ambition to the extent his principles bent at times. Instead of chapters, there were “scrolls” and frequently the pause between scrolls was awkwardly long (a production glitch) although the narrator’s tone of voice was perfect. I could have listened to twice as much material—continuing into Cicero’s later career. For sure I will get any sequel. What surprised me most was the behind the scenes cunning of Roman officials, their ingenious plans to best their opposition, and the sometimes ruthless quality of the ancient world before Christ.

Historia
Once in a century or two, a new political theory is formulated to explain current events and offer solutions for the greater good. Past theories included the Philosopher King, Chinese Dynastic Rule, Feudalism, Capitalism, Socialism, Rightest Movements, and the New Left. With the fast spread of digital technology, the source of political power today lies in the democratization of knowledge, along with being the first to develop and exploit new systems. The instantaneous is the imperative. The unstable is now the new stability.

From the Author—For Those Who Enjoy New Political Theory
Revisado: 01-26-25
As the author of this audiobook, I liked letting my mind open up—to see the implications of artificial intelligence, internet communities, and unlimited access to knowledge. Then, I had to consider how each of these is changing political life. With so much information, has ideology lost its usefulness? Does the past matter, since the future will be completely different in our new cyber world? Will bureaucracy be trimmed down and less rule oriented because its machines will know everything about the people they serve through huge databases? Property and material wealth may also matter less when everyone has access to and lives in cyberspace, when the physical is replaced by the virtual. Will we have a worldwide Greek polis because we can communicate directly with everyone? Is this the new democracy? What I disliked about writing the book was the lack of any anchors and a feeling this was pure fantasy. Yet it seems inevitable. It’s almost here, all around us in our WiFi. Regarding Vincent Midgard, the narrator, he approached me on ACX about wanting to do this book, and his baritone voice lends stability and authority to an otherwise incredible project—if you are using old logic and theory.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
What begins as a blissful vacation aboard a cruise ship swiftly descends into a harrowing ordeal when the author's husband is unexpectedly ensnared in the world of enforced sobriety. This poignant memoir opens the door to a seldom-seen system, revealing the realities of a mandatory rehabilitation system that operates under the guise of care. As the narrative unfolds, the listener is taken on a deeply personal journey that exposes the underbelly of a rehab industry fraught with systemic flaws and bureaucratic apathy.

Alcohol Rehabilitation
Revisado: 05-21-24
This personal story shares an unwanted trip into a substance abuse program after a bizarre set of circumstances on a vacation cruise. Told from a wife’s perspective of a husband going back to his work with the railroad, their social drinking faces a bureaucracy which pegs him as a denier of his “problem.” Is this a case of Nietzsche’s famous quote, “The most common sort of lie is that by which a man deceives himself?” The husband’s blood alcohol level was only .027 (well below the legal limit to drive a motor vehicle of .050). This couple, who had thought of themselves as responsible adults who knew their drinking limits, somehow got through this crisis. If you don’t believe people are ever falsely accused, this book is an empathy builder. If you work in the rehabilitation industry, this read is a sensitivity enhancer. The author is a talented writer who ventures into creative non-fiction with this story, making our world a more-nuanced place.

Mr. Koontz goes in a different direction with this story about the fate of “nice” people in the ferocious period in which we live. His descriptions were poignant and funny with an edge. I wanted more, as the book ended a bit too soon.

Historia
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Projects Personal Tragedy on Larger Body Politic
Revisado: 02-21-23
Dean Koontz writes compellingly about a woman who withdraws from the world after she loses her family to criminal actors being protected by higher ups in government and law enforcement. The story is tantamount to a full scale attack upon the federal government, billionaires, and narcissists who seemingly have destroyed the ideals of the country for everyone except themselves. Ostensibly told from the point of view of the victim, I got the distinct impression it was really Mr. Koontz speaking. I would hope enough ordinary and decent people in law enforcement would retake the initiative and give the country back to us ordinaries. The story ended before systemic problems were set right, perhaps to anger readers against the powers that be. Sorry, I can’t accept this level of cynicism.

Historia
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.
