Historia
Guy is about to finish writing his breakthrough online article. He overheard the story by chance in a pub and it’s guaranteed to go viral - all he needs to do is persuade the World’s Unluckiest Man to talk to him. His best friend Larry’s quest for killer clickbait material has led him to a recently appeared shanty town in Glasgow, where he finds some kind of urban voodoo cult. Ex-cop Sam has already come face-to-face with the terrifying force behind both these phenomena, but he’s been trying to put it out of his mind.

Mr Smitherd impresses again!
Revisado: 01-26-22
I am a long time fan of Mr Smitherd, and always eager for new releases. You See the Monster is a typical Smitherd "Modern Horror Novel". Everyday people getting caught up in more or less horrific stuff, through no fault of their own .. or is it? The story is fast paced, keeps you guessing, and certainly keeps you pushing to finish just one more chapter before bed.
Mr Smitherd deserves a much larger audience. This book needs to go viral (a little pun, right there).
I think the voice acting is really good as well, and suits the story and characters perfectly.

Great collection of stories!
Revisado: 12-05-19
Another fine release from Luke Smitherd. Five rather different stories:
1) Closure: Slightly creepy, with a few twists. Typical Smitherd story (that's a compliment).
2) He waits: Creepy and reminiscent in part of his book "In The Darkness, That’s Where I’ll Know You".
3) The Jesus Loophole: All about remorse and sin. I'm probably not religious enough to really appreciate this story.
4) Your Name is in the Book: Love this one! Part growing-up story, part boy-meets-girl-loses-girl, and part what-the-heck-is-going-on (again typical Smitherd!).
5) Keep your Children Close: The true gem of the collection. This horror story gets under your skin. Tension is built perfectly and to very high levels in this story. This is Lovecraft stuff. Masterful!
Luke Smithered narrates his own book here, as in many of his other releases. To me he has the perfect voice for his stories. Very enjoyable! Keep it up, Mr Smitherd!

Very entertaining and inventive
Revisado: 06-12-19
Loved this book. A fresh take on the whole humanity-has-to-find-a-new-home-amongst-the-stars theme. Creepy in parts, but in a good way.
Believable characters, massive in scale and with a plot that was not at all predictable in places.
The performance is more than OK, although a little shrill at times. I guess that was on purpose, but..

Historia
The man known as Cheradenine Zakalwe was one of Special Circumstances' foremost agents, changing the destiny of planets to suit the Culture through intrigue, dirty tricks or military action. The woman known as Diziet Sma had plucked him from obscurity and pushed him towards his present eminence, but despite all their dealings she did not know him as well as she thought. The drone known as Skaffen-Amtiskaw knew both of these people.

A bit of a mess really
Revisado: 11-28-18
I know the structure of it is rather unusual, but to me it was just confusing and not a plus. Great fun at times but overall a disappointment. By far the weakest of the Culture Series; I've currently finished the first six books of the series.

Best enjoyed in snack sized chunks
Revisado: 11-14-18
This book is fun! The idea itself is perhaps not the most original, but the twists and details added to it makes it very entertaining. It does slow down a bit in the middle part, and could very well have been trimmed down a bit. The end is fast-paced and brings excitement. It is very much the setup for one or more sequels.
I would recommend enjoying this in smaller chunks over time, rather than binge-listening to it as that could be a bit much..

Historia
Yuval Noah Harari's 21 Lessons for the 21st Century is a probing and visionary investigation into today's most urgent issues as we move into the uncharted territory of the future. As technology advances faster than our understanding of it, hacking becomes a tactic of war, and the world feels more polarized than ever, Harari addresses the challenge of navigating life in the face of constant and disorienting change and raises the important questions we need to ask ourselves in order to survive.

Food for thought
Revisado: 11-14-18
Again a great book from Harari. I really loved Sapiens and Homo Deus and was looking forward to this book. His ideas and thoughts are just as thought-provoking and his vision just as clear in this book, but it is not the same coherent whole as with the two previous books. Some of the 21 topics or essays are less interesting than others, and there is some (minor) repetition of content in some areas.

Historia
Hilketa is a frenetic and violent pastime where players attack each other with swords and hammers. The main goal of the game: obtain your opponent's head and carry it through the goalposts. With flesh and bone bodies, a sport like this would be impossible. But all the players are "threeps", robot-like bodies controlled by people with Haden's Syndrome, so anything goes. No one gets hurt, but the brutality is real, and the crowds love it. Until a star athlete drops dead on the playing field.

Rather different from the 1st book - still great!
Revisado: 11-14-18
The story from the first book (Lock In) is just the backdrop this time around. This is perhaps more of a crime drama than Lock In, and it does explore the crazy world of media driven sports. Great story, and Wil Wheaton is on form as well!

Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Great cast, predictable story
Revisado: 11-13-18
The cast is great, making for an entertaining listen. The story itself is rather formulaic and predictable. Certainly the house with its fantastic collection of magical keys is a fun idea, but that's it - it never feels like much more than that.
