Great 2nd Entry
Revisado: 02-17-24
Murder by Other Means opens with Tony doing a less-than-savory job – one that could land him in a heap of trouble if anyone found out. When that job ties Tony to a bank robbery, the death of an acquaintance, and a murdered cop, all roads lead the police to Tony. Tony isn’t one to go down without a fight, even if he has to investigate on his own. Luckily, he won’t have to do it all on his own.
As a huge fan of Scalzi, especially his sci-fi mysteries, Murder by Other Means was such a fun find. I’m saving the third novella in this series for a later date because I know I’ll miss this series. If you like The Dispatcher series, check out Scalzi’s full-length novels Lock In and Head On.

Revisado: 02-16-24
If Rosalyn Landor has ever done a bad job on a Julia Quinn novel, I've certainly never heard it. This is one of my favorite Quinn books and one of my very favorite historical romances. Brother's best friend + Caretaking scenes + Families that want them together. So swoony.

Historia
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." These were the words that defined Fitzwilliam Darcy's young life. Any measure of integrity, honor, loyalty—these were secondary considerations to the size of a bachelor's estate. The only lady to esteem his genuine character was now lost forever, and he must face his future alone.

Pride and Prejudice from Darcy's POV
Revisado: 11-09-23
While not a bad book, this book is quite long for what it is - a repetition of Pride and Prejudice from Darcy's point of view. We see very little of Elizabeth. The writing in the book is fine and the narrator of the audiobook was equally excellent and captured Darcy well. However, I was frequently wishing for Lizzie's voice and spirit.
If you enjoy P&P variations, particularly from Darcy's point of view, and like the idea of an angsty Darcy and a romantic tragedy to his past, this book may be for you.

Great Medieval Romance!
Revisado: 10-26-23
I have read a LOT of historical romances. Sweet, Spicy, Closed Door -- I love them all. But, somehow, I had never read a medieval historical romance before Whispers of Desire. I've previously read a Regency romance by Amanda Mariel, so I knew I loved her writing, so I thought now was as good a time as any to finally give medieval romances a try. While I definitely didn't love the time period *quite* as much as regency/victorian settings, I really adored the feisty, headstrong heroine and the loyal mercenary by her side. If you love romances with tough, stabby women and men who fight for their woman, you will adore Sir Ariston and Lady Isabel.
Notable Tropes:
* questing together
* saving the castle
* fighting beside each other
* widower MMC
I enjoyed this novella as an audiobook, and I highly recommend it! It was so much fun, clocked in at just over 4 hours, and the narrator was absolutely fantastic for each and every voice.

Steamy Regency Novella
Revisado: 10-16-23
This is my second novella in the Wayward Dukes series, and I have adored both of them. This one was a touch spicy, a dash angsty, and very swoony. I loved both the hero and the heroine here; both were quite reserved, but not at all meek or quiet. What begins as a fake courtship leads to respect, friendship, and much more.
While this is an open door romance, the two semi-explicit scenes use more flowery language, rather than super detailed language. I actually prefer this in my spicy historical romances, so I thought this was wonderful!
I listened to the audiobook of this novella, and the narrator was excellent! It was obvious when the POV changed and when dialogue shifted between characters. Both the female and male characters were done well by the narrator, and the English accents were spot on!
All in all, this was an excellent historical romance novella, and I can't wait to read more in this series and more by this author!.

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Impactful and Tender Historical Mystery
Revisado: 09-22-23
This is the first June Hur book that has truly stuck with me and made a lasting impression. The writing is phenomenal and the narration is excellent. The story develops so naturally, and I feel like I learned an extraordinary amount of history while reading this, without feeling overwhelmed or the story feeling bogged downed. There is a touching sweet romance and a gripping, thrilling mystery. Neither interfere with the other, but each work together seamlessly. Highly recommend.
