Historia
Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett faces two different kinds of raging beasts—one animal, one human—in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C. J. Box. A rogue grizzly bear has gone on a rampage—killing, among others, the potential fiancé of Joe’s daughter. At the same time, Dallas Cates, whom Joe helped lock up years ago, is released from prison with a special list tattooed on his skin. He wants revenge on the people who sent him away: the six people he blames for the deaths of his entire family and the loss of his reputation and property.

Odd/unexpected killing machine. A little hard to buy the concept.

Should have pointed out that 3” is half the length of a dollar bill. Lots of mention of 3”, but no context for a reader without a ruler or knowledge…

Historia
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Entertaining and insightful. Isaacson’s books are always well though out and structured, but this ways more than just a chronological biography. Inside the mind of Elon Musk (as much as a mortal can be). And occasionally hilarious.

A bitter rant
Revisado: 10-28-21
I had high expectations having read Nick's other works. This book was a venomous political rant sandwiched between a couple of stories about trips outdoors. I always found Nick to be an intelligent free thinker, but this book was just filled with hate and disgust for anyone that doesn't share his political beliefs. Although he speaks of the importance of "nuance" in different parts of the book, once he speaks of anyone less liberal than him, there is nothing by vile hatred. He spends the vast majority of the book labeling anyone with "non-liberal" opinions as white supremacists, proud boys or the klu klux klan. Instead of exploring ideas to fix the problems he perceives, he resorts to name calling and belittling half of America.
No matter what your political views, I can't see how this would be an enjoyable read for anyone. It's not intelligent, it's just angry. And sad.

Surprising!
Revisado: 01-09-21
I bought this thinking it would be a good “text” so I could learn a bit about the history of economics in the US. A book you power through to mix a bit of education in with the standard fare. This was incredibly interesting and perfectly narrated by Ray Porter (no surprise there). Loved the story and I learned a lot in the process. Highly recommend.

The entire world knows Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, the teenage sidekick of Doc Brown in Back to the Future; as Alex P. Historia
In 1769, Captain James Cook’s historic expedition in the region would lead to an English claim on Australia, but before he reached Australia, he sailed near New Zealand and spent weeks mapping part of New Zealand’s coast. Thus, he was also one of the first to observe and take note of the indigenous peoples of the two islands.

No concept of Maori pronunciation!
Revisado: 02-20-19
Aggghh. The speaker has no clue when pronouncing Maori words. This is tragic. Anyone interested in learning more about the Maori will cringe when listening and others will have been given consistently bad examples. How very sad. The authors of this work must be fuming.

For almost a decade, he has chronicled his incompetence on the back page of Field & Stream, where his hilarious dispatches about life as a hapless outdoorsman who lives in suburbia have earned him legions of fans.

Hilarious book, brilliant narration
Revisado: 01-21-19
I find Bill Heavey's books abosolutley hilarious one minute and then poignant the next. A pretty rare mix. If you're an outdoor enthusiast (or not) I will guarantee belly laughs and maybe a tear. I've listened to all of Heavey's other books that are equally well written, but Williams' narration on this book is near perfect. I'd even pick it over Heavey's own narration of "It's Only Slow Food Until You Try to Eat It".

In the forward, the author apologized for his rendition of the female characters in the book. He needs to apologized even more profusely. I don't really feel I can review the book because it was so difficult to tolerate the female voices.
Maybe we can take up a collection to hire a proper narrator.
