Not a Armand Fan

I’ve just never been an Armand Rosamilia fan. I’ve tried reading his other books but except for putting in gross stuff for no plausible reason, his writing doesn’t interest me. It doesn’t seem to have “personality” to it.
The only reason I got this books was because I AM a Mark Tufo fan! I’ve read many of his different versions of Mike Talbot and I enjoy every one. This one doesn’t disappoint. And it wouldn’t be a Mike Talbot book without Sean Runnette. I enjoy the humor, the bromance, and the action.

This was hard to finish. I could hear the saliva in Barbara Rosenblat’s narration. It was disgusting and EXTREMELY annoying. Because of that, I could NOT enjoy this book and will probably never put myself through another torture session to listen to it again.

Too Young Adult For Me

There are very few young adult books I like and enjoy. I find the majority of them to be over dramatic for things that don’t call for it. I also feel the writing can be immature and naive, especially when “seen” through the characters’ eyes, which greatly limits any world and character building. If this book was advertised as a young adult book, I wouldn’t have tried it.
I found this story flat and stopped after a few hours.

I don’t know if the writer was trying to be funny or not. The writing was very unrealistic and was more fixated on tv shows and movies to be taken serious. It could have been culture shock since the story takes place somewhere in England and all the characters are beyond “British”. It seemed more like a “how to survive a zombie apocalypse” manual or maybe introducing a prepper lifestyle to those who stereotypically are not considered to have that mentality. Each time the “prepper” of the group or one of the characters comes up with another way of surviving, it jarred me out of the story like it was a PowerPoint presentation. I’m sorry but this is not my cup of tea (sorry, I had to do it).

The narrator killed it for me

I liked this author’s other series but I couldn’t get into this one. The biggest reason why is not the writing but the narrator. His style is too distracting and annoying. I am having trouble just getting to chapter four.

Spoilers: this ends in cliffhanger...again.
Just like the “so called” first book in this series, this is well written and the narrators really make this story come to life, but it is NOT a complete story.

Spoilers: This ends in a cliffhanger.
This book is well written and engaging. The narrators are excellent. But this is not a complete book. According to Amazon, this is book one out of four. Until it is a complete book, I will be returning this and I’ll wait and hope it becomes a COMPLETE book.

Wrong type of narrator

Don’t get me wrong. This narrator is very good but he just has a style and voice that is not a good match for a romance especially a rather risqué romance. He should be narrating for nonfiction or self help. It was very distracting and I couldn’t stay with the story because of it.

It is always sad when a good series comes to an end but please do it right. The story was too rushed. The author had been hinting at a very important character for the last several books and then decides to hit us with not only who it was but leaves him underdeveloped. The author has slowly increased Sam’s powers ever since the beginning and then “wham” the character is now powerful and that’s it. I understand a series cannot go on forever but if you stay a consistent pace through ALL your books in a series and then decide warp speed for your last, it feels like the author pretty much gave up on this series and was almost like phoning it in. I do appreciate that the author gave all of the favorite characters a happy ending, and “tried” to tie off any story or plot lines from previous books, but it could have been better if the author just took her time.

One of my creative writing professors in college said it best. “Don’t tell them (your readers). Show them.” He meant by using the method of fleshing out characters, building worlds and situations, and by never giving away your true story or plot ‘til the very end. This author did none of that. Within the first hour of the book, he had a character, a 13 year old boy, already talking about extinction and that was only after a few people disappeared (and that was done “off screen”). The so called “scary” parts were barely a blip in the radar. And the way the rest of the characters reacted when people snatched in unbelievable ways right in front of them was beyond nonexistent (these were friends and family who were just snatched and they were like “oh, well, let’s keep going”). I’m only a couple hours in and am struggling to keep going. I really wanted to like this book but there are far better ones like Koontz’s The Taking or Brant’s The Dark. Save your credit or buy those.
