exceptional synthesis of research

the most useful health book I've read in years, every point was either research based or explicitly noted as observation. not a medical doctor but as a mental health professional and sleep researcher those sections were right on the mark, well researched, well integrated into the rest of picture of health. highly recommend this read

Exceeded already high expectations - returns to the surreal fever dream horror of Annihilation without clumsily relying on any of the previous books, while somehow building and relating to all of them. 10/10

An interesting read

over all interesting Soviet era "Yankee in King Arthurs Court", the same translator as the version of Roadside Picnic I read which was A+. Overall the story is fine but leaves something to be desired.

Blown away

Like many picked this up out of curiosity for the source material for the film Stalker. Did not expect to be so sucked in to the story, or for the gritty language and description of life to be so believable emotionally and on face value. The translation is clearly a labor of love, the narration is perfect. 10/10

pretty incredible work

the most well researched piece of scifi I've ever read - offers more near-future issues currently effecting the world and some very interesting, novel solutions, why effectively engaging the human core of the situation through very rounded and real characters. probably a bit utopian, a bit hopeful regarding mankind's ability to rally, but still an excellent work.

outwardly an excellent contemporary"fantasy" novel (fans of Niel Gaimin will enjoy this), inwardly, and more importantly, a surprisingly gentle but deep exploration of identity, memory, and purpose in life. Very well written, very well performed.

Mixed Bag

I am torn on this book, because the story is pretty stupid, but the linguistic, religious, and sociological analog that runs through it is pretty genius. It's a very mediocre Cyberpunk story with a very good philosophical dialogue running through it, starting about 1/4th the way in.

Not really the right narration for PKD

PKD is often dark, disorienting, and a sometimes mimics psychosis. That's part of why it is so good. The narration has a little too much whimsy, like these stories are for children. it's not ideal but also not a deal breaker.
